The USC Schwarzenegger Institute for State and Global Policy is committed to advancing post – partisanship, where leaders put people over political parties and work together to find the best ideas and solutions to benefit the people they serve. The Institute seeks to influence public policy and public debate in finding solutions to the serious challenges we face.
Founded in 2012 by Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger, the Institute carries on his belief to govern with the interest of the people, not the political party, in mind. The Institute works to ensure that the ways of solving problems developed from his time in office will continue to benefit the people of California, and around the world.
The Institute has an opening for a full-timeĀ Public Communications Specialist.
Duties include:
  • Oversee the Schwarzenegger Institute’s written communications, media relations and social media content development used to drive the Institute’s mission and policy work to external audiences
  • Report to the Institute’s Global Director and Academic Director and will regularly engage with the Institute’s Chairman, Senior Fellows and Advisory Board Members
  • Take the lead on engaging external partners and stakeholders who share the Institute’s mission
  • Regularly speak on behalf of the Institute in the media and at public events in and outside Los Angeles
  • Work closely with the Institute’s Environmental Policy Director on the Institute’s environmental policy work
  • Oversee and manage the Institute’s Digital Legislative Environmental Handbook initiative

Required qualifications:

  • Possess excellent written and verbal skills
  • Be proficient in using all social media platforms
  • Experience speaking to the press, engaging politicians, senior academics and government officials
  • Possess a detailed knowledge of California, U.S. and international environmental policy and initiatives
  • Have a passion for public policy, current events and organizational management
  • Have a minimum of two years work experience
  • Must be able to travel within and outside of Los Angeles
