What do we want in a Public/Media Relations Coordinator?

Our ideal candidate has 3-5 years of work experience in media relations preferably within a PR/Communications agency and/or healthcare environment. Experience in outreach to underserved/multicultural communities is essential; with a passion for saving or changing lives.

Some of what you’ll be doing: 

  • Develop media relations strategy that promotes and advances GOL’s mission with a focus on outreach to underserved/multicultural communities where the need for transplants is greatest
    1. Build and maintain strong, beneficial relationships with targeted media through proactive/responsive outreach
    2. Develop and implement proactive media relations strategy to increase education and outreach to underserved/multicultural communities.
    3. Develop compelling content, strategic messaging documents and materials, including news releases/media advisories, pitch notes, op eds, letters to the editor and talking points.
    4. Create new communications tools and resources, develop talking points and provide media training.
  • Work to increase awareness of the importance for more people to register as organ donors.
  • Support implementation of integrated communications strategy that incorporates earned, paid, social and owned media.
  • Maximize resources, monitor results, and evaluate ROI on an ongoing basis.
  • Develops partnerships that enhance communications efforts
    1. Identifies and develops partnerships that enhance communications outreach and builds compelling content.
    2. Establishes strong relationships with communications colleagues at transplant centers and partner hospitals by working collaboratively to promote organ donation and their patient stories.
  • Writing and editing
    1. Craft well-written copy incorporating key messaging that can be repurposed across a variety of communications platforms.
    2. Working in collaboration with others, build and continue to update a toolkit of communications materials and resources to support work of the team and organization.
    3. Write and edit a variety of materials including news releases and other briefing documents, articles, speeches, scripts, social copy, among other materials.

Some of the requirements for the Public/Media RelationsCoordinator include :

  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, public relations, journalism, or related field.
  • 3-5 years work experience in media relations preferably within a PR/Communications agency and/or healthcare environment. Experience in outreach to underserved/multicultural communities is essential.
  • Understanding of and enthusiasm for proactive media relations process.
  • Strong strategic writing, verbal and interpersonal communications skills, ability to work with a diverse group of volunteers, and internal and external stakeholders.
  • Understanding of and ability to communicate complex, nuanced information.
  • Experience in social media platforms.
  • Experience with video/photography a plus.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, multi-faceted environment, managing deadlines and multiple initiatives.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, PowerPoint, PR Software, Microsoft Excel.
