Public Policy Associate
Yelp is looking for a highly-motivated, ambitious and intelligent self-starter who can serve as our Public Policy Associate.
What is Yelp?
Yelp is a platform that connects people with great local businesses. Since launching as a review site in 2004, Yelp has become ubiquitous with local search and evolved into a one-stop platform where people can find, connect, and transact with nearly any local business or service provider. With unmatched local business information, photos and review content, Yelp helps millions of people make decisions every day about where to spend their money — from where to eat, shop or stay, to which healthcare, home or local service provider to use, and beyond.
About the role:
Yelp’s scrappy (and legendary) public policy team is growing. If you’re a good writer, empirically driven, detail-oriented, creative, and – most of all – passionate about protecting the open internet from the negative externalities wrought by Big Tech, this could be your dream job!
Previous experience in a tech policy shop is not required but someone with campaign or some kind of political or policy experience is preferred. As a Yelp Public Policy Associate, you will help execute all the behind-the-scenes work that goes into ensuring the team’s success.
Yelp’s government affairs team plays a crucial role in conveying Yelp’s public policy goals to policymakers and regulators at the international, federal, state and local levels. As the public policy associate, you will play a crucial role in helping to develop our message and assist the team in delivering it at all levels of government.
The Public Policy Associate will be apart of Yelp’s growing global public policy team and will have the following direct responsibilities:
- Help to lobby policymakers and staff on Yelp’s legislative and regulatory priorities.
- Help manage Yelp’s relationships with relevant trade organizations, alliances, and coalitions.
- Help organize campaigns and events to advance Yelp’s policy priorities.
- Assist with research, executive fly-ins, and other miscellaneous tasks to ensure the team’s success.
- A bachelor’s degree.
- Experience in government or with a tech company preferred and bonus points if you’ve also had some experience in executing successful events, ideally for policy-based events.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- An understanding of technology and policy, and ability to quickly get up to speed on complex technical and regulatory issues.
- A sense of humor.
