Grant Thornton LLP is seeking an accomplished and highly motivated professional for the position of Public Policy Communications Manager. The position is located in Grant Thornton’s Washington D.C. office, where both Public Policy and National Tax reside. Together the two can provide a wealth of knowledge on issues to Congress and to the Grant Thornton client.
This position is responsible for the oversight of external and internal communications. The Public Policy Communications Manager will be instrumental in assisting Grant Thornton in reaching tar-get audiences, including, but not limited to, Grant Thornton Partners, Media (especially inside the beltway), and Congressional Communications staff. This individual will play an instrumental role to advance Grant Thornton’s business interests and to communicate the vision and values of the Public Policy Office.
The Public Policy Communications Manager reports to the National Managing Principal of Public Policy, accountable for managing and executing the client outreach process, creating and implementing a strategic program that advances Grant Thornton through Public Policy and enhances the Grant Thornton brand.
Develop and implement a targeted strategy for Public Policy’s National Managing Principal outreach to clients and prospects through Washington Update presentations.
Develop tracking mechanism (i.e. dashboard, charts) to communicate public policy’s impact internally and externally through presentations, roadshows, and webcasts.
Develop and maintain public policy’s communications project management timelines and weekly reporting for key activities.
Partner with various internal and external stakeholders, including corporate marketing, branding, legal, finance, public relations and marketing agencies, and vendors to develop strategies that position the public policy office and its leadership.
Collaborate with internal constituents to create strategies specific for public policy and regulatory matters
Conceptualize and create compelling messages and stories that differentiate the public policy team, while adhering to the firm’s overall brand.
Drive earned media results by developing and enhancing inside-the-beltway media relationships with relevant trade, local and national media, as appropriate, to highlight Public Policy’s efforts.
Daily media monitoring.
Develop and nurture relationships with appropriate congressional communication staff
Develop communications collateral materials.
Advocate for Grant Thornton’s positions across all platforms.
Perform other related communications duties as assigned.
Bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications or English, public policy
Minimum 3 years of experience working in public relations, communications, public affairs or media relations
Minimum 5 years on Capitol Hill and strong understanding of Congress
Demonstrated ability to write and edit content in a smart and compelling way
Strong knowledge of AP style
Experience in managing projects from inception to completion and measurement
Ability to translate complex business/financial materials into content that resonates with a general audience
Proficiency using social media as a tool for engagement
Solid analytical and research skills, highly organized
Strong interpersonal communication and networking skills: mature judgment, high ethical standards, willingness to learn and innovate, political acumen, tact, confidentiality and diplomacy in handling various matters
Strong executive presence
Sound skill with Microsoft applications (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
