Facebook is looking for a Public Policy Manager with expertise on racial justice and equity issues in the United States to join our External Affairs team to support complex cross-functional company workstreams. This person will work with and serve as a resource for teams across Facebook (i.e., product, engineering, policy, communications, partnerships among others), drive engagement efforts with third party racial justice organizations and build greater awareness with the public about our work. The ideal candidate will be a get-things-done professional who will thrive in a fast-moving environment, and rapidly develop credibility and trust with all levels of the organization. They are an expert communicator who is a true diplomat, adept at understanding complex policy challenges and deftly managing relationships both inside and outside of the company. Successful candidates must be able to identify broad trends in the public policy conversation, engage with outside groups on policy issues related to racial equity and technology, and identify potential partnership opportunities.
Public Policy Manager, Racial Equity Responsibilities
  • Serve as internal consultant advising Facebook teams on racial justice and equity product, policy and partnership efforts to guide work across the company
  • Coordinate project management of partnerships with third party racial justice advocacy organizations and think tank experts to advance our public engagement efforts
  • Participate in complex cross-functional efforts focused on racial justice and equity, coordinating the policy team’s engagement and driving to successful execution
  • Track progress to goals and metrics for key projects each quarter
  • Create collateral, organize events, draft communications to stakeholders and the public about our work
  • Build alignment among key project stakeholders and escalate decisions as required
  • Travel domestically to key third party policy conferences and conventions, once travel restrictions are safely lifted
  • Represent Facebook to external policy stakeholders at events, conferences, coalition meetings, and in various working groups
  • Communicate Facebook’s positions in public presentations
  • Articulate our policy positions in briefing papers, consultation responses, and internal policy meetings
  • Advance Facebook’s public policy priorities within the broad U.S. public policy community and provide feedback to third-party groups on their policy efforts
Minimum Qualifications
  • 6+ years of work experience in field of racial equity in one of or a combination of fields: academia, federal legislative/local government, public policy, private sector
  • Experience with the public policy community, including think tanks, academics, policy advocates/activists, trade associations, and other NGOs
  • Experience with coalition building, organizing and/or advocacy efforts
  • BA/BS degree in sociology, critical race theory, political science, international relations, public health, gender studies or related field
  • Experience working in technology and related policy issues
  • Experience communicating with internal and external stakeholders
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in critical race studies or related field
  • Experience working with and advising technical product teams
  • Experience representing companies externally and internally
  • Experience identifying and addressing racial equity issues in technology products
  • Expertise understanding the impacts of technology on individuals, communities, and society
  • Experience working at a think tank, in academia or at a research institute focused on racial equity issues
  • Experience working in management consulting or similar strategic program management role for a technology or consumer company
