The One Legal team at Equinix is seeking a Senior Manager, Public Policy/Government Affairs. This is an exciting opportunity for an expert candidate to help build our public policy agenda and then interact with political leaders and government officials to explain our products and services and promote the growth of internet infrastructure.

 

Responsibilities

The successful candidate will provide leadership in the following key areas:

  • Identify emerging public policy issues related to our mid- and long-term business plans and develop internal and external policy positions, strategies and analyses to influence the external environment and advance our priorities
  • Help lead day-to-day portfolio of the Company’s public policy agenda at the US federal level and in select regions where the Company maintains a physical presence and where the Company does business
  • Develop and implement public policy strategies to support the Equinix public sales teams in the US federal and other select markets
  • Participate in the development of our public policy agenda through regular meetings and ongoing communications with our senior leadership team
  • Drafting policy papers for internal education
  • Collaborate on internal processes for handling public policy matters that arise on an emergency or unexpected basis so that the Company is prepared to respond in such cases
  • Participate in public policy coalitions and trade associations aligned with the Company’s public policy agenda and serve as a key point of contact for the Company’s participation in those organizations
  • Develop working relationships with key legislators and their staffs/committee staffs and regulators to optimally advocate the Company’s public policy agenda
  • Develop internal resources to educate employees about the Company’s public policy agenda.
  • Work with the Company’s public relations team and others to develop a robust set of messages and materials that:
  • Educate policymakers about the Company’s business objectives, its importance to the foundational operations of the Internet, and its plans for future growth
  • Position the Company as a leader with vision on central issues of importance to the Company
  • Help the public understand the role the Company plays in the daily operations of the Internet
  • Emphasize the positive economic and cultural benefits of the Company’s global growth
  • Explain the use of a REIT structure for the Company as a net benefit to growth
  • Promote the Company’s dedication to energy-efficiency and environmentally-friendly policies
  • Promote the Company’s dedication to Diversity, Inclusion and Belonging (DIB) to develop a diverse, empowered, and effective workforce

 

Qualifications

  • You have 5+ years in government relations positions; prior service in state or federal legislative/regulatory bodies a plus
  • Bachelor’s degree; law or master’s degree a plus
  • You have exposure to policy issues in the areas of: Technology and the Internet, Cybersecurity and Data Privacy, Environmental and Sustainability Standards/Energy Use of Corporations, Government procurement and appropriations policy, Tax Policy – International, Federal and State
  • Confirmed high level of integrity, thoroughness, flexibility, initiative and teamwork
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills and interpersonal communication skills
  • Excellent judgment
  • Position based in Washington, DC area
