Opportunity Overview 

TuSimple’s Public Relations Manager provides strategic support for our corporate communications objectives, leading our Public Relations initiatives. In this role, the Public Relations Manager is responsible for increasing brand awareness, promoting the organization as the leader in autonomous trucking and supporting internal communications through the development and execution of powerful communication and media relations programs.

Role Responsibilities

  • Under the general guidance of the Head of Marketing, leads Public Relations discipline for the organization, providing strategic media relations and thought leadership.
  • Plays a pivotal role in the development and execution of strategic, high-impact communications internally and externally which reflect organizational objectives, increase brand-awareness and is consistent with the overarching marketing narrative/strategy.
  • Partners with the full marketing team to create and execute integrated marketing programs inclusive of paid digital marketing, earned media, owned content and social media strategies.
  • Establishes, cultivates, and maintains positive media relations with key media outlets in the business, technology and trucking spaces. Drives media relations, including: creating and driving outreach plans, media strategy, story mining, message development, and multi-channel storytelling.
  • Oversees all media inquiries and interview requests. Provides interviews and gives thorough media training to executives and any other TuSimple employee or board member speaking with the media, ensuring their full readiness for interviews/media inquiries.
  • Partners with cross-functional teams to organize media outreach and facilitate media visits/interviews and attend trade shows/events. Oversees TuSimple media events, as necessary.
  • Manages multiple projects from concept to completion by anticipating challenges, troubleshooting problems, proposing solutions, offering counsel, overseeing quality, and ensuring deadline and budget adherence.
  • Crafts press releases, key messages, and supports keynote presentations. Monitors all media activity for the TuSimple brand and provides quarterly reports to the leadership team.
  • Actively identifies value-added opportunities, including opportunities for partnerships or sponsorships. Maintains strong communication channels with strategic partners.
  • Leads and manages TuSimple’s external PR agency.
  • Travel of up to 25%.

Experience & Skills Required 

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Communications, Management, Marketing, or related field.
  • 8 years experience in Public Relations, Communications, Brand Management or related field.
  • Established remarkability with creative writing and story-telling.
  • Superior presentation skills with the ability to confidently present to senior management, Board Members, media and strategic partners.
  • Demonstrated practical understanding of visual communications, multimedia, social media and the digital landscape and how to incorporate these into corporate programs.
  • Experience developing plans which take complex technology and translates it into compelling narratives.
  • Finely media trained with experience in acting as an organizational spokesperson and media training others at various levels.
  • Very strong technology media relations and contacts; demonstrated proof of translating feature ideas media and digital coverage.
  • Proven capabilities in project management, including ability to manage multiple projects independently.
  • Demonstrated writing and editing excellence; crafting internal and external materials and correspondence, as well as deep understanding of writing for different channels (social, earned, paid).
  • Demonstrated tactical and strategic knowledge of integrated Communications Marketing principles and skills.
  • Familiarity with best practice communications tactics and public relations tools.
  • Experience creating communications for emerging technology, preferred.

  • Ability to seamlessly fluctuate work approach between being detail oriented/ hands on and operating at the conceptual/strategic level.
  • Proven ability to work in a matrix organization, tech start-up experience preferred.

Preferred Skills and Experience

  • Master’s Degree in Communications, Management, Marketing, or related field.
