Essential Job Functions

We are seeking a public relations manager within the communications group of the Firm’s Marketing and Business Development Department.

As a manager at one of the world’s leading law firms, you will contribute to a broad range of global PR and communications activities and oversee programs that communicate Kirkland’s unique culture and differentiated services, enhance the Firm’s reputation and support its core practice areas. Your day-to-day will center on: building and fostering relationships with key media; strategizing and executing communications programs and initiatives; drafting and editing materials including press releases, deal announcements, media pitches, nominations and internal communications content; and serving as an adviser and coach to spokespeople on activities including media interviews, reporter inquiries and profile raising efforts.

You’ll be part of a tight-knit PR team with a hands on, get-it-done ethos, and you’ll collaborate regularly with over 135 diverse problem-solvers and advisers dedicated to the broader business development, marketing and communications efforts of the Firm. You will also work directly with senior partners and Firm leadership. As part of a highly visible and valued PR function, you will have the ability to own and drive critical communications initiatives and help to shape the overall direction of Kirkland’s PR strategy and approach.

The manager will bring outstanding writing, editing and grammar skills to their work. Intellectual curiosity and the ability to distill complex topics into concise, easy-to-read language will be important, as will be interest in exploring creative ways of communicating and new technologies.

The ideal candidate will possess excellent organizational and project management skills, the ability to prioritize and multitask in a fast-paced environment, a strong attention to detail and a professional and polished demeanor. The manager must demonstrate outstanding judgment and the capacity to assess and navigate complex situations. Discretion in handling confidential or sensitive information is necessary.

A bachelor’s degree and 8+ years of relevant experience is required.

Essential Functions

  • Develop and execute public relations programs that are consistent with PR strategy and policies, organizational needs, business goals and the Kirkland brand
  • Identify and pursue media opportunities, targeting the appropriate media outlets for key practice groups and partners
  • Write and distribute press releases, bylined articles, media advisories, award submissions and other external and internal public relations content
  • Build and foster relationships with attorneys, journalists, and business development colleagues
  • Provide coaching and guidance, as well as message-development support, to firm representatives as they prepare for media and speaking opportunities
  • Oversee tracking, measurement and reporting of key activities and ensure maintenance of media lists and Firm communication policies
  • Contribute to the Firm’s social media efforts
  • Contribute to the marketing department’s overall Firmwide efforts, including supporting other projects when necessary

Qualifications & Requirements

Education and/or experience required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, English, journalism or public relations
  • At least 8 years of experience in communications and/or marketing roles. Experience working in a PR agency or professional services environment is a plus
  • Exceptional organizational and project management skills and a professional demeanor
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and impeccable attention to detail
  • Strong interpersonal skills and excellent communication skills necessary to maintain effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders
  • A client service mindset with the ability to multitask and juggle competing deadlines
  • The confidence and presence to work effectively at high levels and in high-stakes situations with senior partners and staff
  • Proficient with technology applications, including Microsoft Office Suite, primarily Word and Excel; Exposure to media monitoring tools, media databases, social media tools and website content management systems a plus
  • The ability to work with and report to staff in various offices across multiple time zones

Work Environment

  • This job operates in a professional office environment.
  • Kirkland offers a hybrid workplace model, with employees expected to be present in the office on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday each week.
