Northrop Grumman Defense Systems sector (NGDS) is seeking a Public Relations Representative or Principal Public Relations Representative adept in storytelling – with a passion for the craft of writing.  This role requires a willingness to learn (people, products and programs) while doing (great communications).  An ability to seek out and cultivate strategic partnerships will be essential for success.  Daily activities will involve a mix of planning, researching, developing, writing, editing and executing high quality, accurate, and timely communications content that help us win new business and grow existing business.  The selected candidate will join the team at our sector headquarters in McLean, Virginia.Responsibilities:

  • Contributes to integrated communication plans, both in the strategic design of the plan and the tactical execution of plan elements
  • Creates engaging content for use across multiple channels
  • Coordinates daily with internal partners and key stakeholders to gain consensus on communications goals and content development
  • Coordinates outreach for the division’s subject matter experts (SMEs) and coordinate the division’s thought leadership activities including maintaining SME biographic summaries and curating relevant examples
  • Works with the sector media relations and trade show teams to ensure messaging and media engagement activities are aligned to division communications goals
  • Adheres to consistent processes and templates for developing, managing and delivering communications content across all channels and ensures compliance with Northrop Grumman brand standards
  • Helps define and track communications content performance metrics
  • Applies best practices and lessons-learned for continuous improvement

This position may be filled as either a Public Relations Representative or Principal Public Relations Representative.Basic Qualifications for Public Relations Representative:

  • One of the following:
    • High school diploma or GED with a minimum of 7 years of experience in communications, journalism, public relations, or related experience
    • Bachelor’s degree in journalism, public relations, communications, or a business discipline with a minimum of 3 years of experience in communications, journalism, public relations, or related experience
    • Master’s degree in journalism, public relations, communications, or a business discipline with a minimum of 1 year of experience in communications, journalism, public relations, or related experience
  • Occasional travel may be required (up to 10%)
  • Must have or be able to obtain a U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) Secret security clearance
  • Must be able to work on-site in McLean, Virginia

Basic Qualifications for Principal Public Relations Representative:

  • One of the following:
    • Bachelor’s degree in journalism, public relations, communications, or a business discipline with a minimum of 6 years of experience in communications, journalism, public relations or related experience
    • Master’s degree in journalism, public relations, communications, or a business discipline with a minimum of 4 year of experience in communications, journalism, public relations or related experience
  • Occasional travel may be required (up to 10%)
  • Must have or be able to obtain a U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) Secret security clearance
  • Must be able to work on-site in McLean, Virginia

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working in or with military, defense, government and/or aerospace-oriented industries
  • Experience working in a large and/or geographically dispersed organization
  • Demonstrated writing experience using AP Style
  • Exceptional research, writing and presentation skills that demonstrate an ability to comprehend and explain complex programs and initiatives to a broad range of audiences
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to develop strong working relationships, both internal to the team and with key stakeholders
  • Flexible and motivated self-starter who is highly accountable
  • Strong project management skills, with a proven ability to manage quickly shifting priorities, requirements and overlapping deadlines
  • Strong attention to detail, follow through and the ability to handle multiple competing priorities with limited supervision
  • Communications strategy development and implementation skills

 

Salary Range: 61400 – 101300
Salary Range 2: 76000 – 125400

 

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
