The College of Engineering at USU invites creative and dedicated communication professionals to join our public relations and marketing team. The PR specialist creates editorial and promotional content that reflects our reputation as a premier organization dedicated to teaching, research, and service. This is a writing-intensive role that requires highly developed communication skills. The PR specialist frequently interviews faculty members, researchers, and students across a range of disciplines to develop news articles and other information assets used in raising the visibility of our academic and research programs. Ideal candidates have excellent interpersonal and storytelling skills, are not afraid to strike up conversations with people they don’t know, are savvy and experienced with social media, and can manage a consistent workload of communication tasks. The specialist works with guidance from the marketing director and is part of a four-person communications team in the Office of the Dean. This is an on-site position at the USU Logan campus with regular Monday-Friday scheduling. Remote work is not available for this role as it requires consistent, in-person engagement with the campus community. The job is fun and dynamic, and our work environment is relaxed and inclusive.


  • Develop media and information that promotes the College of Engineering, its departments, research centers, laboratories, and student and faculty success stories.
  • Disseminate information using web, social media, news releases, press kits, and media pitches.
  • Use traditional and emerging tools and formats for telling stories, including blog writing, podcasting, video, photo, social media, special events, etc.
  • Provide marketing and communication support services for student organizations and special events such as the Engineering State youth summer camp, alumni and community gatherings, annual meetings, technology expos, research seminars, and Senior Design Night.
  • Provide marketing and communication support for occasional weekend or evening events.


  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, English, journalism, marketing, public relations or a related field or an equivalent combination of education and experience is required.
  • At least one year of professional or mentored writing experience is required.
  • Selected candidates will be asked to complete a writing evaluation.
