Regional Mgr, Gov’t Relations


Coordinates and implements state government relations strategy and activities for a group of 5 to 10 individual states; develops and maintains high-level relationships with members of state legislatures and their staffers and senior officials at state agencies (primarily state insurance departments) to ensure Aflac’s interests are represented in assigned states.


Attends and testifies at legislative and regulatory hearings; actively engages in the direct communication of the organization’s perspective to legislators and government officials with the intent of shaping and influencing public policy in a positive manner for Aflac.


Combines and coordinates collective action with outside parties and state/national trade associations sharing Aflac’s core positions on state tax, regulatory, or legislative issues.


Identifies, recruits, and manages consultants and lobbyists to optimize the deployment of resources within individual states.


Coordinates with internal departments (e.g., Compliance, Actuarial, Sales/Marketing) in the development and execution of strategies and tactics to address state regulatory and product challenges and opportunities.


Maintains relationships with constituent groups, building rapport with members of legislative staff; monitors relevant legislative matters; work may also include developing strategy at the state level and analyzing state and national trends; work is performed independently and is evaluated for overall program effectiveness.


Communicates with relevant stakeholders to identify, track, analyze, summarize and determine the viability of state legislation.


Travel required approximately 30% of the time

Education & Experience

Bachelor’s Degree in political science, business administration or a related field, and Eight years of professional job-related work experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.


Five years of experience working with elected officials and regulators in a corporate or government setting involving the application of state and/or federal laws and associated regulations, and general administrative functions and legislative processes of state and federal government required.


Previous legislative or public relations experience and a network of contacts with policymakers and other members of public office required.
