Planned Parenthood of Northern New England (PPNNE) is seeking a qualified candidate to fill a full-time Regional Public Affairs Organizer position based out of our Portland, Maine administrative office. The Regional Public Affairs Organizer will help expand and engagement efforts as well as implement an exciting field plan that includes recruiting, training and developing volunteer leadership that supports the overall actions and goals of Maine’s public affairs department. This position is grant funded through 2020 and may extend beyond depending upon ongoing grant support.

Primary responsibilities of this position include planning and implementing projects such as canvasses, phone banks, community events as well as developing opportunities to engage our communities in ways that will recruit and build leadership. Other duties include nurturing community alliances and collaborations that promote community partnership, develop youth organizing teams & support student organizations for local colleges/universities while updating and maintaining volunteer and voter data bases. As a team player, this role needs to be willing to work across teams and pitch in to ensure all colleagues succeed.

Qualifications include experience in advocacy, grassroots organizing, volunteer engagement, and race equity as well as a firm understanding of Maine’s political process and a comfortability talking about all services PPNNE provides. Travel required in the state of Maine. Solid written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills are also critical for this position. Ideal candidates will have experience working with people from diverse ethnic, linguistic, socioeconomic and cultural communities, as well as a demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion and the intersection with health and social justice. Bilingual (speak/write a second language fluently in addition to English) desired but not required.
