Meta’s Safety Policy team works with external stakeholders and internal teams across Meta to understand the relationship between our platform and the safety and well-being of those on our platform, and to support the safety and well-being of our diverse global community. We are looking for a Safety Policy Director with subject matter expertise and tech sector experience to set and lead our approach to safety and well-being policy for youth, as well as set, lead, and coordinate our team’s efforts to address the safety and well-being of the young people who are part of our diverse global community. This individual will be responsible for: (1) working with our regional safety and public policy managers to spot, analyze, respond to, and strategically manage youth safety and well-being policy issues for the region and globally, (2) engaging and collaborating with key external youth safety and well-being policy stakeholders to advance our approach to safety and well-being policy for youth (3) working with our product policy, integrity, operations, product, research and program teams to advance the safety and well-being of youth on our platform, and (4) driving safety policy team investigations and responses related to certain safety and well-being issues and abuses on our platforms. Candidates should be dedicated, detail oriented, creative, resourceful, analytical, and knowledgeable about youth safety and well-being technology policy issues, have experience presenting to executive stakeholders, and have experience in developing and executing high-profile technology, corporate and/or political campaign efforts. Candidates should be comfortable meeting high expectations under quick deadlines and prepared to lead, direct, and execute to get work done well and fast. Willingness to travel domestically and internationally and to handle calls during different time zones is expected.
Safety Policy Director, Youth Responsibilities
  • Work with internal and external stakeholders, to monitor, respond to and get ahead of certain youth online safety and well-being issues.
  • Advise and support Meta teams working on youth safety and well-being public policy, content, product policies, tools, operational responses, programs, resources, and guides.
  • Work with Meta’s regional safety and public policy managers to spot, analyze, respond to, and strategically manage youth safety and well-being policy issues for the region and globally.
  • Work with Meta’s product policy, integrity, operations, product, research and program teams to advance the safety and well-being of youth on our platform.
  • Work with and collect input from external experts and organizations to inform youth safety and well-being public policy, content, product policies, tools, operational responses, programs, resources, and guides.
  • Work within Meta’s Product Policy team to formulate certain policies that govern user, advertiser, and developer behavior on Facebook and uniquely impact the safety, and well-being of young people on our platform. This includes policies to encourage safe and responsible online activity as well as policies that deter or mitigate certain safety risks.
  • Represent Meta, as required, in engagements with key youth safety and well-being stakeholders in civil society, government, international institutions, academic institutions and the press.
Minimum Qualifications
  • 10+ years of experience in youth safety, well-being, and technology
  • Knowledge of digital products, services, features, platforms, and policies and operations for <18, as well as knowledge of youth online safety and well-being policy landscape, including applicable regulatory and self-regulatory regimes
  • Experience working on policy, product, or programmatic development in tech
  • Experience working with civil society organizations, governmental bodies, and international institutions
  • Experience working cross-functionally with numerous teams across policy, research, legal, operations, programs, and product
  • Experience with consensus-building
  • Experience operating independently and representing companies at the ministerial-level
  • Experience working in a rapidly growing and fast-paced environment
  • Analytical skills, drafting skills, work ethic and detail orientation
  • Demonstrated experience thinking and moving quickly, producing results under competing deadlines, juggling many different projects at once, finding pragmatic and creative solutions to business issues, providing concise and business-focused advice, and making sound judgments
