Job Summary

The Senior Associate, Digital Content and Engagement position is designed to coordinate and amplify Independent Sector’s digital presence, storytelling, and content delivery. This position will have two primary responsibilities:
  • Managing, growing, and deepening engagement among audiences on Independent Sector’s social media networks, including the social media accounts for Upswell, our foundational community building initiative.
  • Writing original creative content, curating partner content, and helping develop impactful resources for our website(s) and platforms.
The Senior Associate will serve as a core member of the Communication and Marketing department, which works externally to broadcast a strong brand, increase member and non-member engagement, and build new partnerships. Internally, the team promotes strong communications between departments, designs communications and marketing strategies for various projects and products, maintains high quality brand consistency, and writes and edits content from across the organization. The ideal candidate will have a deep commitment to the Independent Sector mission, a love and talent for exceptional writing, strong listening skills, proven success with web and social media projects, and a dedication to being highly organized. S/he must have a collaborative spirit, a passion for using social media to engage new audiences, and a desire to learn and grow professionally. Of special note, we’re looking for a candidate who is creative, has a great sense of humor, and has a confident sense of brand voice.

Duties and Responsibilities

Digital Content and Engagement:

  • Assist in the development and implementation of a comprehensive organizational social media strategy
  • Implement strategies to strengthen Independent Sector’s brand presence on Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, Instagram and emerging social media platforms
  • Manage the maintenance of current website platforms and help development of new website slated for Q4 2020
  • Write daily original message content for social channels
  • Produce original, creative content for communications platforms including website, email marketing, blog, social media, and other digital platforms
  • Increase followership across IS and Upswell social media platforms
  • Develop relationships with influencers who can be activated to promote Independent Sector’s messages
  • Use digital platforms, including social media accounts, to identify and engage new organizations and individuals that are not currently engaged with Independent Sector
  • Work to increase engagement with Independent Sector members, prospective members, and allies across various social media platforms
  • Help implement social media advertising campaigns
  • Track data to report on user activity across the website

Other Duties as Assigned

  • Independent Sector is a dynamic and exciting organization, and the Communication and Marketing department is constantly involved with many moving parts. Team members are occasionally asked to engage in work outside of their typical duties.

Qualifications and Requirements

  • 3-5 years of work experience in communications, marketing, public relations, or digital engagement
  • Must have obtained a bachelor’s degree
  • Strong writing skills – creative, narrative, conversational, and professional
  • Nonprofit and/or government sector experience
  • Excellent verbal, written, and listening skills
  • Proficient in HTML and familiar with WordPress
  • Exposure in using social media tools including Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, andĀ LinkedInĀ for cause/business goals
  • Successful multi-tasker who can manage immediate, short-term, and long-term projects simultaneously
  • Must be able to organize and schedule work effectively even under urgent timelines
  • Comprehensive personal computer skills including demonstrated spreadsheet, word processing, and database management capabilities are required
  • Demonstrates exceptional judgment, attention to detail, thoroughness, and follow through
  • Experience with information architecture
