POSITION SUMMARY

Defenders of Wildlife seeks a Campaign Manager to lead the development and implementation of a new national initiative to address the Biodiversity Crisis, which threatens one million species with extinction in the coming decades. Working closely with internal teams and external partners, the position offers the unique opportunity to advance bold and visionary solutions to address the Crisis. Superior communication, organizational, inter-personal and leadership skills and experience with multi-prog campaigns are required. The Campaign Manager will coordinate and lead a campaign with integrated legislative, communications, marketing, and grassroots strategies to advance national policy action on the primary threats to wildlife and ecosystem services.  These include: habitat destruction, overexploitation of wildlife, climate change,introduction of invasive species and pollution. Advocating for the initiation of a National Biodiversity Strategy is an important focus.

The Campaign Manager will play a lead role in increasing awareness of the Crisis by partner groups, the public, and policymakers. He/she/they will lead efforts to achieve short-term policy success while building out a campaign structure to ensure continuing action on the drivers of extinction in the years ahead. The Campaign Manager with work closely with traditional conservation partners while identifying opportunities for allyship with non-traditional organizations to build a stronger, more inclusive and diverse constituency mobilized to address the Biodiversity Crisis.

 ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Lead the development and implementation of Defenders’ Biodiversity Crisis Campaign to elevate awareness of the Crisis nationally and encourage Congress and the Administration to implement a whole-of-government approach to address the challenge;
  • Work as part of a coordinated interdepartmental team to develop short and long-term strategies and tactics to meet campaign goals;
  • Coordinate with traditional conservation partners while identifying opportunities to build a stronger and more inclusive movement to address the drivers of biodiversity loss and species extinction through building allyship and authentic relationships with non-traditional groups and individuals;
  • Facilitate information sharing and coordination between coalition partners and provide opportunities for complimentary tactics, strategies and messaging to strengthen the movement for wildlife;
  • Oversee and ensure effective execution of campaign strategy, including rapid response tactics and long-term strategies;
  • Manage multiple projects simultaneously with competing timeframes and politically driven deadlines;
  • Distill complex issues into campaign materials for a variety of audiences, including fact sheets, reports, presentations, blogs, social media posts, etc.;
  • Communicate verbally and in written format to diverse stakeholders;
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS 

Education: Bachelor’s (B.A./B.S.) degree or equivalent.

Experience: Minimum of 4 years of relevant professional experience.

Experience in political advocacy, organizing, campaigns, or communications; and   conservation knowledge and non-profit experience preferred.

An equivalent combination of education and experience may be accepted as a satisfactory substitute for the specific education and experience listed above.
