Senior Communication Specialist/Editor
Within a dynamic team environment: Plan, execute, assess and enhance an effective internal communications program in support of agency strategies, business goals and objectives. Expertly write creative internal communications and edit internal and external communication products, including a weekly to daily news publication using journalistic AP style. Provide trusted policy and communication counsel to Energy Northwest leaders. Actively build and strengthen relationships with internal audiences to maintain information currency, identify messaging needs and assess effectiveness. Collaborate with team members to successfully execute all Public Affairs programs, plans and actions.
Write, edit, and produce internal and external communications products, and develop and execute tactics and strategies, in support of agency business goals and objectives, and in concert with public affairs and program initiatives. Produce content for Energy Northwest internal publications, collateral and talking points for internal audience. Examples include but are not limited to: Public Affairs and employee communication plan initiatives, Energy Northwest News, Columbia Information Handbook, and Energy Northwest strategic and business plans.
Proactively recommend PA strategy, suggesting solutions and resolving department, process and project issues and challenges. Research and develop effective collateral including articles, presentations, speeches, briefing papers, white papers, talking points and quotes for use by the public affairs team, senior leadership, and various internal forums. Develop and maintain resource materials including style guide, communication guide and department instructions. Conduct surveys, studies, benchmarking and prepare reports and analysis.
Establish and maintain a working and participatory relationship with key industry organizations for information currency and knowledge sharing including: Nuclear Energy Institute, Utilities Service Alliance, Inc., Washington PUD Association, American Public Power Association, Northwest Public Power Association, Bonneville Power Administration and others.
Provide Public Affairs support to Energy Northwest-sponsored initiatives (business plans, community service activities, etc.).
May serve as Energy Northwest spokesperson and news media responder, communicating information on major initiatives, programs, corporate activities, new generation development and other emerging issues (i.e., plant and project operations, new generation activities, bond sales, budget changes).
Must participate on the Emergency Response team (ERO) when designated.
Must support the biennial refueling outage.
REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Bachelor’s degree in Communications, English or related field (e.g., journalism, mass media, public relations) from an accredited college or university and a minimum of 10 years of corporate communications/public affairs experience including internal communications;
OR an Associate’s Degree or Minor in Communications, English or related field (e.g., journalism, mass media, public relations) from an accredited college or university and a minimum of 12 years of corporate communications/public affairs experience including internal communications;
OR a high school diploma/GED and 14 years of extensive corporate communications/public affairs experience including internal communications.
Must secure Energy Northwest unescorted access.
Supervisory experience in Public Affairs/Public Relations or a career-relevant field (e.g., communication; mass media; journalism; governmental/stakeholder affairs; public policy; marketing) will add an additional six months for every year of supervisory experience to any of the above requirements (e.g. two years as a career-related supervisor equals three years of experience). Other supervisory experience may be considered on a case-by-case basis
Salary: $84,081 minimum to $105,101 midpoint
Typically, selected candidates are hired at a salary rate between the minimum and midpoint of the range, based on applicable experience and qualifications, market rate, internal equity, and budgetary allowances.
