PCDC seeks a full time Senior Communications Manager to be a core member of PCDC’s Strategy and Public Affairs unit. Reporting to Director of Communications, the Senior Communications Manager will work to raise visibility for and understanding of PCDC’s work and programs.

This position requires excellent strategic thinking and an understanding of when to use specific communications tactics and tools to best tell stories, center impacted voices, and reach goals across unique divisions.

This is a full-time, remote position with quarterly required travel for in-office meetings and staff retreats to PCDC’s home office in New York. Occasionally, additional travel may be required. The selected candidate will work a schedule in line with the Eastern Standard Time Zone.

BREAKDOWN OF RESPONSIBILITIES:

Media Relations

  • Enhance the organization’s media presence by cultivating relationships with key reporters, editorial boards, and producers; pitching stories, educating the media, and prepping spokespeople to consistently deliver a unified, positive message for PCDC
  • Continually look for new channels through which to deliver our messages, maximize media trends, and build incremental awareness and appreciation.
  • Field media requests, coordinate interviews and handle news conferences, etc.
  • Manage relationships with third-party media-focused partners (including agreements and budgets)

Strategy

  • Craft and independently manage complex communications plans with key reportable benchmarks for cross-departmental projects with other staff and partners
  • Serve as a communications thought partner for senior leaders across PCDC
  • Identify new strategies for injecting PCDC’s key issues into the public debate and industry areas
  • Stay connected to PCDC senior leadership and subject-matter experts to identify upcoming milestones and news opportunities.

Content

  • Assist in the creation of a wide range of content that will educate, inspire and motivate PCDC’s audiences
  • Draft engaging press releases, media alerts/media advisories announcements
  • Assist with talking points for executive presentations, webinars, and other internal and external events
  • Synthesize complex or technical language into accessible content for audiences

JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 7+ years of demonstrated communications/public relations management, media relations, and planning/strategy, preferably in a nonprofit, health care, or social change environment.
  • Commitment to centering equity and inclusion in all internal and external communications and to amplifying PCDC’s commitments to health equity and racial justice
  • Commitment to leading with kindness and collaborating respectfully and productively with colleagues, partners, and clients
  • Ability to manage a slate of programs, projects, and vendor relationships.
  • Excellent writing skills, including the ability to write engaging content quickly in many voices for many different audiences across different platforms
  • Ability to gather and evaluate data to create informed communications and strategies
  • Experience with Cision, Meltwater, Prowly, Critical Mention or other media database system preferred
  • Experience with Adobe Creative Suite preferred
