Senior Director, Communications & Public Affairs

The Sr. Director, Communications & Public Affairs will manage the division’s public relations strategies and provide day to day public affairs support to division leadership. This position will report to the Vice President of Human Resources and work closely with the corporate communications and government relations teams to achieve the Division’s overall communications objectives.

  • Develop and execute Division’s external communication plan, including implementing public relations programs and strategies to support the company’s visibility objectives.
  • Act as the lead communications spokesperson, working with division leaders and corporate communications to establish a media outreach and engagement strategy.
  • Communicate company positions on regulatory affairs issues to government agencies, interest groups, and elected officials.
  • Manage local public relations agency and their ongoing efforts.
  • Lead execution for external crisis response for division issues.
  • Maintain active relationships with local media to ensure we capitalize on storytelling that supports key strategic imperatives.
  • Serve as the division liaison on key issues to state government trade organizations, government organizations and elected officials.
  • Oversee community programs and internal and external communications efforts. Build positive relationships with local nonprofits and collaborate with the company Foundation on local charitable giving programs.
  • Attend local political, government and community events and serve as a liaison for managing issues and coalitions as needed.


  • Strong presentation, writing, verbal and crisis communication skills. Able to speak for the Company before print and broadcast media.
  • Experience pitching and placing earned media stories; deep understanding of media relations strategies and tactics. Proven issues management and crisis communications skills.
  • Experience managing community relations programs and building positive relationships with local philanthropic organizations.
  • Established relationships with local media.
  • Prior experience with state government officials, elected leaders and political contacts.
  • Highly motivated and task-oriented individual.
  • Strong intrapersonal, organizational, and time-management skills.
  • Proven ability to work independently.


We believe the successful candidate has these qualifications and experience:

  • Eight plus years in relevant experience.
  • Bachelor’s degree, preferably in Communications, Public Affairs or Political Science.
