The Software & Information Industry Association (SIIA) – the principal trade association for the business-to-business content and information industries, education technology, associations, and related interests – is looking for a dynamic, experienced policy professional to join its Public Policy team.

Function. Reporting to SIIA’s Senior Vice President, Global Public Policy, the Senior Director for Competition Policy will serve as the policy lead for competition issues. The Senior Director for Competition Policy has overall substantive responsibility for competition policy issues, with a special focus on legislative, regulatory, and policy efforts in the United States and the European Union to promote competition in the technology industry, along with related efforts concerning issues such as consumer welfare, consumer protection, and privacy. The Senior Director will be responsible for advocacy with the Executive Branch, Congress, foreign governments, trade associations, industry coalitions, the press, and other stakeholders. The Senior Director will also be responsible for conducting research; preparing statements, issue papers, testimony, and other deliverables; briefing SIIA members and leadership; and developing strategies for advocacy and awareness. The Senior Director will work with the broader team to support SIIA’s policy agenda.

The Organization. SIIA connects more than 400 companies across the information landscape, including data, financial information, education technology, specialized content and publishing, and health technology companies. Our diverse members help learners of all ages prepare to succeed in their future, manage the global financial markets, develop software that solves today’s challenges through technology, provide critical information that helps inform global businesses large and small, and innovate for better health care and personal wellness outcomes.

In this job, you will:

  • Work with SIIA’s Government Affairs Council members and SIIA’s policy team and leadership to develop positions on competition issues.
  • Develop and author policy content for internal and external audiences, including educational materials for SIIA members, white papers, testimony, advocacy briefs directed to policymakers, op-eds and other advocacy statements.
  • Advocate SIIA positions and policy content before external stakeholders, including global and domestic lawmakers and regulators, other trade associations, and tech policy stakeholders.
  • Organize, execute, and participate in advocacy and capacity-building events, including substantive updates to SIIA members, conferences, Capitol Hill briefings and hearings, as well as events in other fora including conferences with global audiences.
  • Monitor legislative and regulatory trends, including bills introduced in Congress, policies and proposals by Executive Branch agencies, European Union legislation, and others. Monitor and remain up to date on the state of news, events, and public discourse on competition issues.
  • Identify opportunities for SIIA to be an early thought leader on emerging issues.
  • Raise SIIA’s profile among policymakers and other industry and consumer advocacy stakeholders, with an aim to leverage opportunities for testimony before policymakers and to identify opportunities for coalition-building.
  • Prepare and/or participate in the preparation of weekly, monthly, and semi-annual reporting to members on policy activities, engagement, and success outcomes. Provide updates on policy areas to include in relevant SIIA newsletters and member updates.

Minimum Requirements:

  • 7+ years of experience and/or proven comprehensive knowledge of competition reform efforts, with significant experience working on technology policy issues.
  • Experience working with stakeholders and driving consensus-based solutions.
  • Political acumen, with experience for the political processes in the EU and the United States.
  • Ability to work in a collaborative, fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to work effectively with and through committees to accomplish SIIA projects
  • Ability to handle numerous issues, committees, tasks and assignments.
  • Discipline to work successfully without close supervision.
  • Bachelor’s Degree Minimum with JD or other graduate degree(s) preferred.
