Senior Director, Government Relations
About the Role
The Senior Director is an integral member of the team who serves in a leadership role. This position will lead multiple clients to address some of the most pressing health policy issues of our time, including improving access to affordable and quality health insurance coverage; making prescription drugs more affordable for patients; securing and expanding reproductive health; and addressing the mental and behavioral health crisis in America. The Senior Director will also lead business development efforts as well as serve in an external thought leadership role for the firm in order to support a culture focused on client growth, organizational and staff development. The Senior Director reports to a Principal.
Responsibilities

Lead day to day operations for clients ensuring all deliverables and timelines are met.

Point of contact and relationship manager for clients and/or their key stakeholders.

Identify and create strategies to achieve client’s goals; build out and execute against workplan.

Lead and facilitate internal and client meetings.

Prepare written materials, including explanations of policy issues, congressional testimony, blog posts, presentations comments on proposed legislation or regulations, newsletter articles and other materials.

Conduct outreach to Capitol Hill and federal agencies on relevant legislation and rulemaking on behalf of clients.

Represent and actively promote clients and Pyxis at meetings, conferences and networking events.

Build and maintain relationships with key points of contact in the field (e.g., Member of Congress, Congressional staff, federal agencies, thought leaders, third party validators, public policy and advocacy professionals).

Identify, stay abreast and contribute to the knowledge base of current policy and legislative landscape, best practices, and trends.

Provide direct support to Principal in development of strategy, identification of barriers and/or opportunities as client work evolves and craft creative solutions and recommendations to address barriers and leverage opportunities.

Demonstrate a vision for growth and develop recommendations and strategies to implement them; promote Pyxis through professional network in pursuit of new business opportunities and leads.

Represent Pyxis as a speaker at external industry events.

Author thought leadership pieces.

Work with Principal on developing client budgets and managing staff utilization.

Supervise and mentor team members. Promotes positive interactions among staff and participates as an active team member. Serve in a “leadership by example” role.

Serve in a creative, innovative, strategic as well as “roll up their sleeves” approach role.

Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
Requirements
-
Master’s degree with at least 12 years professional experience in federal government relations, health policy, and/or patient advocacy. Familiarity with Congressional procedures and the Executive Branch.

Strong background in healthcare financing policy issues, including Medicare and Medicaid policy.

Established network of relationships within Congress, the Executive Branch, and/or the health advocacy community.

Minimum five (5) years’ experience managing and directing staff including recruitment, selection, and development to achieve company goals and objectives. This includes leading and coaching a team to support client deliverables and objectives.

Ability to facilitate and pull different communities together for conversations around a host of topics to encourage them to collaborate and share information.

Proven track record of meeting measurable goals to develop and sustain high-level stakeholder relationships.

Outstanding written and verbal communication and presentation skills; regularly prepares written materials and speaks with authority; effectively adjusts written and verbal communication styles to different audiences; listens for understanding.

Mastery experience partnering with clients to understand their competitive context, strategic goals, current and long-term needs.

Dynamic leadership, management, and interpersonal skills to move the company forward.

Demonstrated capacity to stimulate collaborative teamwork and that sustains the respect of a diverse, multicultural staff.

Motivated and deadline driven, ability to work as part of a team, self-starter with the ability to deliver high-quality work products with limited oversight.

Detail- and results-oriented, possessing solid project management skills, ability to hold project team members accountable to deadlines and ability to track and work across multiple projects.

Strong analytical ability, sound judgment, and capacity to think strategically and multi-dimensionally to solve problems, improve or develop new processes and make decisions and recommendations to Pyxis leadership.

Ability to work under pressure, manage multiple tasks simultaneously, and meet tight deadlines and deliverables.
