Position Summary

The position is responsible for directing the American Chemistry Council’s (ACC) Political Mobilization Program, which is charged with building political champions within with Members of Congress through direct political engagement within their respective districts.  The position is further responsible for ensuring member company facility representatives are fully engaged and leveraged within ACC field-based political activities. Additionally, the position is responsible for creating the program’s strategic objectives and developing ongoing tactics including an aggressive digital media presence. The position reports directly to the Vice President, State Affairs and Political Mobilization.

Major Duties and Responsibilities

■    Establishes the department’s annual goals and objectives as well as the metrics to measure success.

■    Leads political mobilization team in determining effective tactics to achieve the department’s goals and objectives.

■    Works with inter-departmental communications team to develop appropriate communications tools, including an aggressive digital media program, to achieve department’s goals and objectives.

■    Works with the regional teams to establish goals and measurements for political outreach, including in-state coalition building and local meetings, plant tours and industry grassroots engagement.

■    Works to develop and enhance all aspects of ACC’s political mobilization activities and campaigns, communications, tools and operations, including strategic direction as well as branding and marketing to all internal target audiences.

■    Creates internal and external communication and/or promotional materials in support of political programs and activities.

■    Conducts outreach, recruits, trains and/or cultivates relationships with identified targets for purposes of ensuring participation in political mobilization activities and grassroots campaigns.

■    Maintains up-to-date knowledge and understanding of latest political involvement program trends, tools, and tactics and makes recommendations to improve ACC programs.

■    Develops systems and metrics for purposes of gauging departmental success relative to the engagement of Congressional targets and member company representatives.

■    Ensures appropriate coordination with appropriate State Affairs regional staff, including planning grassroots meetings, preparing appropriate leave-behind materials, and attending meetings/conferences, as needed.

■    Oversees the day-to-day work activities of employees within the Political Mobilization work unit, including establishing performance objectives, conducting performance reviews, and facilitating employee development for direct reports.

■    Performs other related duties as assigned.



■    Bachelor’s degree in political science or relevant field.

■    10 years advocacy experience.

■    Demonstrated experience in conducting grassroots support on behalf of political candidates or issues.

■    Demonstrated knowledge of public policy process and grassroots strategies, tools, and tactics.

■    Ability to adapt quickly to changing legislative and political environment.

■    Strong written and verbal communications skills, including the ability to give both internal and external presentations.

■    Ability to cultivate and manage high quality stakeholder relationships.

■    Ability to manage and prioritize multiple projects with competing priorities and exercise sound judgment in evaluating such situations and issues.

■    Ability to travel, as needed, within the United States.


■    Experience in grassroots program development, implementation and management.
