Senior Government Affairs /Lobbyist
The Food Research & Action Center (FRAC), the nation’s first and leading policy and advocacy organization dedicated to fighting poverty-related hunger and injustice is looking for a Senior Government Affairs/Lobbyist to lead its legislative initiatives.
FRAC works to secure solutions through public policies and public-private partnerships to eradicate hunger and undernutrition in the U.S. FRAC plays leadership roles in national research, policy analysis and advocacy, coalition-building, outreach, technical assistance, training, and a growing array of communications to achieve our goals. In partnership with hundreds of national, state, and local nonprofit organizations, public agencies, corporations, and labor organizations, FRAC also actively addresses other poverty-related issues as root causes.
The Senior Government Affairs/Lobbyist will forge relationships with Capitol Hill staff to build FRAC’s visibility and to advance the organization’s agenda, policy briefs and legislation. Through meetings, written testimony, letters and other communications, the Senior Government Affairs/Lobbyist will assist with the development and delivery of FRAC’s legislative priorities in Congress. The individual hired will also engage and elevate FRAC’s network of state and local anti-hunger advocates and foster relationships with outside nonprofit organizations to strengthen and build new alliances to promote shared goals and policies that will help eradicate hunger and undernutrition.
The person in this position will have the ability to contribute to the diversity of ideas and backgrounds on the FRAC Team. This position reports directly to, FRAC’s Legislative Director and works closely with the Senior Government Associate, FRAC’s president, and senior leaders of the organization.

Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Writing memos, comments, policy briefs, fact sheets, and action alerts to support FRAC’s policy priorities.
- Scheduling and meeting with Members of Congress and staff.
- Communicating with FRAC’s network of state and local anti-hunger advocates and coordinating Capitol Hill strategy.
- Working on legislative presentations for network, internal and external meetings, and conferences.
A well-qualified candidate will possess the following:
- Excellent interpersonal communication skills with the ability to speak clearly and convincingly with both Republican and Democratic elected officials and their staff.
- Exceptional and versatile writing skills including the ability to draft written materials such as action alerts, fact sheets, policy briefs, and legislation.
- Ability to speak publicly and at large gatherings.
- Knowledge of federal agencies, Congress, and the legislative process at the federal level.
- Ability to think strategically about using legislation to advance FRAC’s policy goals.
- Ability to multitask, prioritize, and make decisions.
- An ability to demonstrate respect, professionalism, and sound judgment clearly and consistently with all people.
- Bachelor’s degree required; graduate degree preferred; 10 or more years of work experience.
- Demonstrated commitment to working for social justice.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
- Demonstrated leadership capacity at a senior level.
