Senior Government Affairs Officer
The Senior Government Affairs Officer manages all community, city, state, and national relationships for the Museum. Building strategies for each of these relationships, the Senior Officer manages a team of three to work across multiple disciplines in the Museum to both build support for a variety of interests of the Museum, and to help expand the diversity of The Met’s visitors. Core to the role is managing our relationship with New York City — to secure annual operating funds and support for capital projects, and to maintain strong relationships with the NYC Department of Cultural Affairs. The Senior Officer and team also builds support for state and federal capital funding. Additionally, the Government Affairs office is the principal ambassador for the Museum to a wide range of communities and guests. For all of this work the team builds a set of high-profile, program-driven events to sustain strong relationships with the The Met’s wide range of stakeholders.
The Met partnership with New York City is core to its mission. Through partnering with the other parts of the External Affairs division, the Senior Officer plays a critical role in designing the Museum’s outreach program — also in partnership with the community engagement work of The Met’s Education department. Additionally, the Senior Officer will be a principal stakeholder in the Museum’s DEIA initiative — as a member of the DEIA task force, and partnering with the Chief Diversity Officer and others across The Met.
Part counselor, part organizer, part ambassador — the Senior Officer is a critical connection between the Museum and its community, city, state, and federal partners.
