Senior Grassroots Advocacy Assistant

The Sr. Grassroots Advocacy Assistant assists with the daily activities related to the grassroots advocacy and member engagement initiatives for the association. Requires that the incumbent be detail-oriented, well-organized, possess strong time management skills and have an understanding of Congress and the political process.
Also assists the Director of Political Affairs (“DPA”) and the Senior Vice President (“SVP”) of Legislative and Political Affairs in the direct development and execution of initiatives relating to MAA and [indirectly] the operations of MORPAC, MBA’s political action committee. Works with MBA’s Legislative and State/Local Government Affairs (“SLGA”) staff on other grassroots initiatives, the development, refinement, and execution of a key contact program, the delivery and execution of all MBA “Calls to Action,” and other enrollment/renewal efforts, with an emphasis on sustained growth over a five-year horizon.
·Maintains and seeks ways to improve the integrity of the MAA grassroots database and process all new MAA enrollments.
·Revitalizes and maintains a key contact/“grasstops” database as it relates to the 116th Congress and beyond.
·Works with LPA lobbyists and SLGA staff to distribute grassroots “Calls to Action” communications and cull post-Call metrics.
·Works with SLGA staff to develop and implement state-level enrollment practices and maintains relationships with MBA State Ambassadors.
·MBA’s National Advocacy Conference (NAC): assists MBA’s External Relations Group in the recruitment of attendees, schedules meetings with Congressional offices (while acting as the primary “day-of” NAC contact), and helps assemble materials for all NAC issue briefs.
·Assists (and leads as necessary) all coordinated/integrated efforts with IT/Legal/Marketing departments in the development, refinement, delivery, and ongoing utilization of an MBA Advocacy smart phone application.
·Assists in all other coordinated, strategic initiative technology efforts (as defined) to refine and create tools that help enable and increase MAA enrollment.
·Subject to general oversight, works with the IT department to identify, process, document and implement all MAA renewal/sun setting campaigns.
·Gathers internal materials to create and send weekly MAA newsletters and other relevant communications to database members.
·Assists DPA with MAA steering committee roster management, preparation of MAA meetings, events, and conference calls, and prepares minutes for each meeting.

Undergraduate degree in political science, communications or public policy highly desired with one to two years of political experience, and/or grassroots administration preferred. Advanced skills utilizing Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint) and knowledge of DDC Advocacy and database management software considered a strong plus. Candidate must possess strong verbal communication and writing skills, both creative and journalistic. Candidate must also be comfortable in a fast-paced environment with multiple deadlines and deliverables that can change within the same week or even the same day.
