Job Description

Reporting to the director of Global Strategic Services (GSS) organization within Outreach and International Affairs, the senior immigration program manager will oversee and implement the permanent residency and adjustment of status process for Virginia Tech. Additionally, this position will oversee the H-1B visa and other non-immigrant visa processes within GSS. The senior immigration program manager will evaluate requests and documents from hiring units to ensure that they comply with relevant federal laws and regulations; maintain required recordkeeping and documentation files and keep abreast of changes in laws, regulations, and administrative procedures that affect international faculty and temporary workers. The senior immigration program manager will also develop and execute training programs and serve as a SEVIS RO/ARO for the university’s J-1 visa program. The senior immigration program manager will assist the director in developing immigration policies and procedures and selecting, supervising, training and evaluating staff.

This position is responsible for prompt and accurate communication with Virginia Tech’s hiring units and employees to ensure effective delivery of the non-immigrant visa and permanent residency programs and immigration compliance and coordinates with Virginia Tech hiring units to ensure receipt of complete non-immigrant visa and labor certification application request packages; It coordinates with Virginia Tech hiring units and employees to ensure receipt of supporting documents required by U.S. immigration laws; Provides support as needed to full suite of non-immigrant employment-based visa applications and maintains immigration case-management system.

Required Qualifications

• Master’s degree or bachelor’s degree and relevant experience
• Significant experience in employment-based permanent residency process
• Experience preparing PERM labor certification applications
• Must be a United States Citizen or Lawful Permanent Resident (required for role as RO/ARO)
• Strong communication, interpersonal, and intercultural skills
• Demonstrated ability to work effectively with federal agencies, faculty and staff from diverse backgrounds and cultural traditions

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience filing nonimmigrant visa petitions in an academic setting
• Previous experience as RO/ARO and/or DSO
• Prior experience using immigration case management software
• Experience in living or studying abroad and/or proficiency in a second language
• Experience in working with the international community in higher education
• Demonstrated understanding of the intersection between USCIS regulations, SEVIS and the law
