Senior Manager, Corporate Communications

This role encompasses both external communications (media relations, social media) and internal communications (developing internal company announcements, developing content for intranet site, organizing company meetings and identifying and addressing other internal communications needs) in collaboration with our 3rd party corporate communications agency.

Essential Job Functions:

External Corporate Communications:

  • Build and/or maintain digital communications channels, including the company website and social media platforms
  • Develop engaging content for corporate communication channels (e.g. company website and social media); implement creative and strategic campaigns to build followers and engagement and manage internal review/approval process
  • Lead the development of communications materials (e.g., press releases, presentations, media pitches) for key corporate, clinical and regulatory milestones
  • Support corporate and patient advocacy events
  • Collaborate and Support executive speaking opportunities
  • Work with agency partner on tactical execution of communications strategies, managing associated budgets and ensuring that metrics are achieved

Internal Corporate Communications:

  • Work closely with members of the executive and leadership teams to ensure communications programs and tactics are aligned with Avanir’s long-term strategy and culture
  • Engage with leadership and employees to ensure that key corporate priorities and achievements are communicated throughout the organization; help employees understand and feel connected to the Avanir culture, business strategy and priorities through internal communications and employee engagement initiatives
  • Develop content for internal intranet
  • Develop internal communication campaigns (emails, newsletters, videos) to support stronger alignment and connectivity amongst home office and field-based
  • Work with agency partner on tactical execution of communications strategies, managing associated budgets and ensuring that metrics are achieved
  • Work with agency partner to gather engagement analytics and qualitative feedback to measure success of internal communications initiatives.

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Communications, PR, Journalism, or Science strongly preferred
  • Minimum of 12+ years of communications experience required including 4+ years of management experience, emphasis on corporate communications, internal communications, or social media strongly preferred
  • Previous experience with a pharmaceutical or biotech company or healthcare PR agency, required.
  • Exceptional verbal, written, and presentation skills; demonstrated ability to synthesize complex scientific information and present it in a clear, concise and general manner.
  • A strategic, critical thinker with storytelling skills who can work in a fast-paced environment, with strong attention to detail with all assignments.
  • Creative, proactive and enthusiastic; willing to take smart risks and lead initiatives with confidence
  • Proven experience of delivering results with impact.
  • Strong project management skills, with the ability to prioritize and adapt to rapidly changing business needs
  • Positive attitude and willingness to participate on projects and events in any way – big or small
  • Team player who is open to feedback and other perspectives
  • Proficiency with image and video editing capabilities is preferred
  • Proficient in Microsoft products (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint)

Physical Requirements:

This position primarily works in an office environment. It requires the ability to sit or stand for long periods of time and frequent walking. Daily use of a computer, phone, office equipment and other computing and digital devices is required. May be required to stand for extended periods when facilitating meetings or walking in the facilities. Some local travel may be necessary, so the ability to travel by plane, operate a motor vehicle and maintain a valid Driver’s license and/or effectively navigate public transportation is required. While performing the responsibilities of the job, the employee must be able to read and respond to interoffice communications as well as effectively participate in meetings. The employee is often required to sit and use their hands and fingers, to lift up to 20 lbs., pull, push, carry, handle or feel. The employee is required to carry, handle items, reach with arms and hands, to stoop, kneel, or crouch; talk or hear. Mental demands may require prolonged concentration, reading comprehension, understanding and interpretation of concepts, ideas and philosophies.  The physical demands of the position described herein are essential functions of the job and employees must be able to successfully perform these tasks for extended periods.
