Senior Manager, Corporate Communications
The Senior Manager, Corporate Communications is responsible for developing and driving proactive communications strategies focused on Crisis Communications and Reputation Management for Nordstrom.
A valuable partner to executives, business stakeholders and internal communications partners, the Senior Manager will drive proactive communications and media relations to enhance and promote Nordstrom’s reputation as an innovative leader in retail.
Strong Communicator: Has excellent interpersonal, verbal, written, listening and written communication skills that drive action and get results. Can develop short and long-term communications strategies aligned with business goals. Understands corporate communications, internal communication and brand communications strategies and tools for collaboration.
Strategic: Ability to interpret business goals/vision and translate into a compelling communication strategy that is grounded in a deep understanding of our business, people and culture. Works to identify the root cause and can synthesize and formulate an understandable and executable communications solution. Sees white space and potential opportunities.
Trusted Advisor: Seen as the communications expert, provides an informed opinion and can inspire others with innovative actionable approaches and knows how to replicate success. Has the courage to provide direct and actionable communications counsel to senior leaders.
Operates at Multiple Levels: Can operate at a strategic big picture level and influence the most senior leadership levels, while also providing coaching and managing detailed execution through team.

A Day In The Life
Corporate Communications Expert: Establishes goals and drives innovative and compelling storytelling strategies and programs to support company objectives and drive visibility for Nordstrom, its business units, leaders and our key priorities and differentiators. Writes press releases, communications plans, speeches, and internal communications.
Effectively onboards and manages Corporate Communications agency
Develops storytelling strategies for individual business units and leaders as well as JWN corporate and equity narratives
Stays current on industry practices, audience perception, and key trends assessing and communicating their potential impact on the business
Builds Relationships: Builds and maintains strong relationships with executive management teams, key business stakeholders, internal stakeholders, business media and external partners on a regular basis
Develops team and expects excellence: Understands team’s individual skills, contributions and areas of development and provides direct feedback, coaching and motivation to engage and retain talent while driving results. Manages Corporate Communications budget to drive efficiencies and continuous improvement within the organization
Change Leadership Partners with leadership to anticipate future business changes and challenges and proactively develop and implement new or revised plans. Navigates, leads and drives cross-functional change and business transformations.
10 years experience with progressively increasing responsibilities
3-5 years management experience in communications, public relations, public affairs or related field
Passion and understanding of retail, fashion and the business media landscape
Ability to build strong relationships with peers and senior leadership across a diverse set of organizations and functions
Strong Strategic Planning Abilities And Critical Thinking Skills
Strong attention to detail and follow through skills
Strong organization and time management skills
Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively
Ability to adapt to changing environments and audience perception as necessary
Clear and effective written and verbal (including presentation) communication and strong interpersonal skills
