Senior Manager, Government Relations
Kimberly-Clark Corporation (“K-C”) seeks to hire an experienced government relations professional for the position of Senior Manager, Government Relations. The position is based in Washington, DC and will report to the Vice President, Government Relations.
This individual will be responsible, either individually or with others on the Government Relations team, for:
Representing K-C on a wide range of matters before federal, state and local governments.
- Supporting K-C business units, facilities in assigned states and key corporate functions on legislative, select regulatory and economic development matters.
- Developing and maintaining a rapport with K-C organizations to understand their current and future business objectives and how specific legislative and other government proposals might impact K-C.
- Keeping internal stakeholders apprised of legislative and other government developments of strategic importance to K-C.
- Influencing actions of legislative and/or executive bodies on select issues thru direct lobbying, trade associations, issue coalitions and contract lobbyists.
- Securing economic development incentives (tax abatements, public financing, infrastructure and/or training grants, etc.) from state and local development agencies to support new K-C facility investments.
- Developing and maintaining working relationships with key federal, state and local officials, as well as personnel in strategic business associations.
- Ensuring that engagements with government officials, business associations and contract lobbyists are professional, compliant with federal, state and local ethics laws, the K-C Code of Conduct, the K-C Corporate Financial Instructions and otherwise reflective of K-C corporate values.
This position typically functions with minimal day-to-day supervision and requires sound judgment concerning when and to what extent to seek guidance from others within Government Relations or from other units within the corporation. Some travel is required. Compensation will be commensurate with the qualifications and experience of the candidate.
A competitive candidate should possess the following experience and qualifications:
- A minimum of five years government relations lobbying or Hill experience. Corporate experience is preferred, but not required.
- Substantial experience working in a federal or state legislative body or the office of a statewide elected official is desirable, but not required.
- Experience working in policy areas such as tax, energy, transportation, environment, trade and employment/labor.
- Undergraduate degree with good academic credentials. A relevant graduate level or law degree is desirable, but not required.

- Extremely bright with strong written and verbal communication skills enabling this person to be persuasive and communicate efficiently and effectively with a diverse group of government officials, K-C personnel and others.
- Ability to work with government officials, K-C personnel and others in a non-partisan manner.
