Job Description Summary

The Senior Manager GE Public Affairs will be responsible for developing and executing campaigns on policies impacting GE, managing a robust grassroots army of supporters, and utilizing data to ensure and measure the success of these and other efforts. In this role, the Senior Manager will collaborate with leaders across the GE businesses as well as the government affairs and policy team to bring a data-driven, campaign mindset to the various risks and opportunities facing the company. He/she will work closely with outside agencies as well as internal leaders to develop strategies and content in support of our public affairs priorities.

Job Description

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Act as trusted advisor to the Global Director of Public Affairs; Business Communicators; and Corporate Communications leaders on developing proactive and defensive policy campaigns and identifying appropriate data-driven opportunities to support key priorities.
  • Closely follow news coverage and events regarding the latest policy debates impacting GE in DC and media coverage of key policy topics nationwide.
  • Serve as the day-to-day lead of GE’s grassroots program, GE Voices, including a robust editorial calendar and efforts to increase engagement among subscribers.
  • Interact with internal and external stakeholders to refine, improve and execute communication plans and thought leadership projects (including op-eds, white papers and conferences).
  • Identify and build relationships with external influencers including media, customers, suppliers and others as needed to build constituency to promote GE and facilitate GE’s public affairs priorities.
  • Act as a partner to executives and provide them with communications guidance on critical business issues.
  • Craft clear and compelling written messaging that drive a desired response from the reader.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university or college
  • Minimum 10 years of communications and media relations experience covering crisis communications, PR, marketing communications, and/or global public affairs
  • Superior oral and written communication skills, experience briefing others in a succinct and substantive manner
  • Strong project management skills and proven track record of successful accomplishments
  • Ability to absorb, digest and distill technical subject matter into clear and concise content and design a path forward to action
  • Demonstrated experience building relationships with colleagues and with external stakeholders at all levels

Desired Characteristics:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Public Relations, English, or Political Science is preferred.  Masters or advanced degree a plus
  • Experience in government/ political campaign experience, corporate communications, or public relations preferred
  • Established relationships with variety of media outlets including reporters and other key leaders
  • Experience/comfort with data measurement, from polling to grassroots campaigns or other work with a strong data component preferred
  • Demonstrated experience acting as a trusted advisor to senior level executives
  • Broad and deep experience with and knowledge of print, video and social media and key drivers, metrics associated
  • Ability to simplify strategy into specific actions with clear accountability, making decisions with speed and accuracy based on best available information, and communicating priorities clearly and concisely
  • Ability to energize others by building a connection with the business teams and Communications teams through personal involvement and trust and providing feedback and coaching to help develop others
  • Ability to provide effective advice to senior leaders
  • Strong interpersonal and leadership skills
