DESCRIPTION

We are looking for a Senior Manager, Public Policy who will report to the Senior Manager, Federal Public Policy. The Senior Manager will be responsible for developing and executing public policy and advocacy priorities related to our health care initiatives at the federal level. The Senior Manager will represent Amazon before the FDA, executive branch agencies, federal policymakers, and other relevant health agencies. The Senior Manager will also coordinate advocacy work on these issues with consultants, trade associations, and other relevant stakeholder groups.

The Senior Manager will work collaboratively and transparently across the various business units supporting our health care priorities and initiatives to ensure alignment between business priorities and public policy goals. The Senior Manager will assess and communicate potential government activities, develop mitigation or enhancement strategies and positions, and manage and coordinate external advocacy efforts, outreach programs, and key initiatives in concert with business objectives.

The position is based in Washington, DC.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

· Bachelor’s degree required;
· At least 8+ years of public policy experience, including with federal health care policymaking and legislative and regulatory policy processes

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

· Juris Doctor or Master’s preferred.
· Strong skills in advocacy and using spoken and written rhetoric to persuade and inform.
· Demonstrated experience working within government, companies, consultancies, trade associations, or equivalent organizations.
· Prior experience with steep learning curves.
· Ability to effectively communicate complex information to a wide variety of audiences.·
· Work collaboratively and transparently with the Federal Public Policy team, the business, and legal department to ensure alignment between core business priorities and public policy goals
· Highly effective oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills; demonstrated ability to effectively and comfortably interact at all corporate and political levels; create factual, relevant and easily understandable talking points and other messaging; and persuasively deliver messaging to relevant audiences.
Interject points intelligently, concisely, and in a friendly way.
· Maintain highest personal levels of ethical conduct, confidentiality, and integrity, with strongest professional reputation in the industry.
· Self-starter who can take general direction and produce specific results.
· Ability to identify and understand key technical aspects pertaining to corporate operations in legislative and regulatory proposals, understand business implications, and synthesize policy documents for internal and external customers. Think critically, process data from multiple sources, forecast potential scenarios, prioritize based on probability and desired outcome, and recommend a best course of action.
· Ability to influence, negotiate with, and persuade others. Be flexible and demonstrate strong judgment/decision-making skills, and political acumen. Ability to intelligently build a course of action, analyze trade-offs, and make recommendations even in ambiguous situations.

· Anticipate challenges/obstacles our business could face as the public policy landscape evolves.
· Effect change and drive policymaking that will ultimately benefit our customers. Help manage and coordinate external advocacy efforts, outreach programs, and key initiatives in concert with business objectives.
· Engage state and federal agency officials, to drive customer and patient focused pharmacy care policies.
· Participate in relevant Washington-based industry associations
· Anticipate challenges/obstacles our business could face as the public policy landscape evolves.
· Manage and coordinate external advocacy efforts, outreach programs, and initiatives in concert with business objectives.
· Help ensure appropriate utilization of outside consultants.
· Help facilitate high-level meetings with key stakeholders, including Congressional, regulatory, industry association, and partners to promote and advocate the company’s public policy priorities.
