Senior Manager, Public Policy – Satellite Communication

We are looking for a Senior Manager, Satellite Communication Public Policy, who will report to the Senior Manager, Telecommunications Public Policy. The Senior Manager will be responsible for developing and executing public policy, regulatory, and advocacy priorities on issues in support of the policy needs of Project Kuiper, an initiative to launch a constellation of Low Earth Orbit satellites that will provide broadband connectivity. Responsibilities will include work before relevant executive branch agencies, Congress, and international organizations and governments. The Senior Manager also will coordinate advocacy work on these issues with consultants, trade associations, and other relevant stakeholder groups.

The Senior Manager will work collaboratively and transparently with Project Kuiper and others in public policy, legal, PR, and business units to ensure alignment between business priorities and public policy goals. The Senior Manager will assess and communicate potential government activities back to the business, develop mitigation or enhancement strategies and positions, and help coordinate external advocacy efforts, outreach programs, and key initiatives in concert with business objectives.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

· Educational Requirements: Bachelor’s degree required; Juris Doctor or Master’s preferred.
· Basic Qualifications: At least 8+ years of public policy experience with a keen working understanding of satellite communications policy and regulatory issues.
Focus and Deliverables for first 12 Months
· Work collaboratively and transparently with Amazon’s public policy team to ensure alignment between core business priorities and public policy goals.
· Anticipate challenges/obstacles our business could face as the public policy and regulatory landscape evolves.
· Ensure policymaker awareness of Amazon’s products and services innovations.
· Start to effect change and drive policy making that will ultimately benefit our customers.
· Help manage and coordinate external advocacy efforts, outreach programs, and key initiatives in concert with business objectives.
· Help facilitate high-level meetings with key stakeholders, including Congressional, regulatory, industry association, and alliance partners to promote and advocate the company’s public policy priorities.
· Help determine and staff appropriate corporate membership opportunities in industry associations and political organizations, and help ensure appropriate utilization of outside consultants.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

· Ideal Candidate Profile: The ideal candidate will have broad experience interacting with satellite industry and regulatory stakeholders, international telecommunications organizations, and substantive experience or knowledge on issues related to satellite spectrum, frequency coordination, licensing, and international radio regulations.
· Educational Requirements: Bachelor’s degree required; Juris Doctor or Master’s preferred.
