Job Summary:

Leads efforts on retail and/or pharmacy policy to ensure the company is properly informed and engaged on trends and developments. Oversees coordination with other members of the government relations team and key business units to facilitate their engagement and input.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Lead policy analyst and strategist for retail policy, including privacy/tech, workforce, retail operations and products, or pharmacy and broader healthcare issues.
  • Analyzes proposed legislation and drafts formal communications in response to government regulations, legislation and other official documents on behalf of Walgreens.
  • Engages, advises and provides subject-matter expertise to members of Walgreens government relations team, including federal, state and local affairs to ensure their engagement and understanding of key issues impacting Retail USA business.
  • Researches and stays informed about policy trends within the industry and ensures team members and internal business units are aware and understand emerging issues.
  • Plays a leading role in engaging with stakeholders, both within and outside Walgreens about retail or pharmacy issues through direct participation in trade associations and other groups.
  • Drives key enterprise policy issues and provide solutions consistent with business goals in collaboration with VP of U.S. Public Policy
  • Partners with legal and compliance to manage enterprise litigation and regulatory compliance risks, with an emphasis on driving policy changes that reduce risk and increase business flexibility
  • Drafts policy communications on key legislative and regulatory issues, including executive briefing memos, white papers, presentations and agency comment letters.
  • Provides industry leading expertise and input on retail pharmacy

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree and at least 4 years of experience in government relations, trade association and/or retail public policy.
  • Experience using time management skills such as prioritizing/organizing and tracking details and meeting deadlines of multiple projects with varying completion dates.
  • Experience developing and executing public policy strategies
  • Experience analyzing, assessing and communicating policy research
  • At least 2 years of experience contributing to financial decisions in the workplace.
  • At least 2 years of direct leadership, indirect leadership and/or cross-functional team leadership.
  • Willing to travel up to/at least 30% of the time for business purposes (within state and out of state).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree / MBA
  • Experience working in a Retail and/or Healthcare environment
  • PharmD
  • At least 7 years of experience in government relations or retail public policy
