Senior Policy Advisor Immigration Policy Project
SUMMARY
UnidosUS is seeking a Senior Policy Advisor for its Immigration Policy Project. The Senior Policy Advisor is responsible for conducting timely policy analysis, advocacy, and communications activities to advance effective and humane immigration policies. These include policies that promote workable legal immigration channels that uphold family unity and protect workers’ rights, improve immigrant integration strategies that promote legalization and citizenship, and that more fully account for the intergenerational impacts of our broken immigration system on the children of immigrants.
The Senior Policy Advisor is responsible for helping develop UnidosUS’s annual immigration policy agenda, including setting and executing on clears goals and strategies consistent with the agenda. This includes conducting policy and legislative analyses and communications and coalition/alliance building to advance immigration policy priorities. The Senior Policy Advisor will be responsible for managing and coordinating field campaign activities, as appropriate, providing information and support to UnidosUS’s leadership, staff, and Affiliate Network from time to time. The Senior Policy Advisor will also serve as a spokesperson for the project with the media and assist in fundraising and managing budgets. The position includes supervising another member of the team.
UnidosUS’s immigration policy team is collaborative and works with other teams internally and partners/allies externally. UnidosUS offers a collaborative, team-based environment that fosters a culture of ideas and debate. We approach our work from multiple perspectives and utilize multiple methods (i.e., research, lobbying, etc.) understanding both the specific issues and the larger interrelated systems.
The Senior Policy Advisor will sit within the Policy & Advocacy component of UnidosUS and will report to the Senior Director of Legislative Affairs. This position is hybrid and is based in Washington DC.

Salary $88,140 – $102,465
Essential Functions
· Develop a concrete, cohesive and strategic policy agenda and implement related activities/tactics to advance policy priorities in Congress and the administration and relevant federal agencies.
· Conduct policy and legislative analyses on immigration policy measures and develop briefing memoranda and other publishable material that demonstrate and share policy expertise and information with organizational leaders and core audiences.
· Play a leadership role in coalition tables where such participation would align and advance our immigration policy goals and strengthen our advocacy.
· Serve as a spokesperson and represent UnidosUS’s immigration policy team, sharing perspectives and information with UnidosUS leaders, Affiliates, coalition tables, the Administration, Congress, and relevant agencies, and with external partners and the media.
· Plan and implement public events, conferences, media engagement, and Capitol Hill briefings in support of immigration policy advocacy efforts.
· Develop collateral advocacy materials (toolkits, fact sheets, position statements, etc.) to support immigration policy/advocacy activities.
· Support fundraising efforts for UnidosUS’s Immigration Policy Project and manage related project reporting and budgets.
· Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
· Bachelor’s degree (master’s preferred); at least five years of relevant experience required.
· Knowledge of immigration policy, including the legislative, administrative, and regulatory processes.
· Demonstrated experience with and knowledge of the Latino community.
· Bilingual ability (English/Spanish) required.
· Proven coalition-building skills.
· Excellent communication skills, both oral and written.
· Ability to work as part of a team and lead groups of peers, including monitoring work plan progress and keeping projects on track.
· Solid track record producing a variety of materials, including fact sheets, issue briefs, blogs, op-eds and talking points.
· High degree of initiative and ability to work under tight deadlines with minimal supervision.
· Willingness to carry out a wide range of activities, including professional and logistical tasks.
· Commitment to UnidosUS’s mission and goals.
