Senior Policy Analyst, Digital Energy Innovation
The Information Technology and Innovation Foundation (ITIF)—the leading think tank for science and technology policy—seeks a senior policy analyst on digital energy innovation within its Center for Clean Energy Innovation. The successful candidate will analyze a wide range of digital technologies that are critical to clean energy innovation, identify implementation hurdles, and help develop and propose policy solutions to accelerate the transition to a low-carbon system. The duties will include authoring original and secondary research in multiple formats and presenting research findings at public events for audiences in the policymaking and advocacy community in Washington, D.C., and beyond. The analyst will be an active member of this community through engagement with other organizations and personal networking. The analyst will be based in Washington and report to the director of ITIF’s Center for Clean Energy Innovation.
The analyst must be passionate about the potential for digital technologies to address energy and climate challenges and be prepared to become a thought leader with a fast-paced, high-powered think-tank. The analyst must have excellent written and oral communication skills and a record of publishing high-quality policy-relevant analysis. The analyst must have an existing base of knowledge and relationships to draw upon. The analyst must be a self-starter who is able to work autonomously as well as collaboratively.
Essential Responsibilities:
Conduct a qualitative and quantitative research program that connects digital energy innovation opportunities, routes to accelerate progress, and policy proposals at the federal and state levels.
Research emerging routes to rapidly advance ways that digitization can improve effectiveness, competitiveness, emissions profile, and resilience across energy systems and manufacturing.
Identify hurdles and potential policy enablers to lower the hurdles.
Probe ways to protect digital information and knowledge across domestic, regional, and global perspectives.
Write and present clear and incisive policy analyses in a variety of venues and formats, including reports, conferences, op-eds, one-on-one meetings, and social media.
Engage in respectful dialogue with those who have diverse viewpoints and backgrounds.
Qualifications:
Keen interest and knowledge of digital technologies, clean energy, innovation, and public policy.
Ability to communicate clearly with expert and non-expert audiences.
High level of interpersonal skills that supports rapid learning from leaders in digital technologies.
Ability to work independently and collaboratively on analytical products in a fast-paced environment.
Excellent research and analytical skills.
Graduate degree in public policy, energy or information technology, or a related field.
Three years or more of relevant experience, preferably at the federal or international level.
Management experience a plus.
