Location: United States/ Established Manulife Timberland and Agriculture Office

Reports to: Manager, Policy and Engagement

Manulife Investment Management- Timberland and Agriculture, Inc. (the “Company” or “Manulife”), an investment manager specializing in global timberland and agricultural investments in six (6) countries, seeks a coordinator of policy and engagement to support Manulife’s property management businesses. In this position, the successful candidate will be responsible for coordinating external stakeholder engagement, internal communications of external activities, and supporting Manulife’s Timber and Agriculture participation in state-level public policy engagements.


The Senior Policy and Engagement Specialist is an integral part of a team of investment professionals, risk managers, and forestry/farm managers spanning nearly 20 states and 4 Canadian provinces; this is a unique opportunity to work collaboratively across both timber and agriculture sectors. The Senior Policy and Engagement Specialist will collaborate and coordinate with groups throughout Manulife, particularly Manulife Forest Management (MFM) and Manulife Agriculture Services (MAS), as a member of the Environment and Policy Support Team to support operations related to stewardship of the environment and public policy engagement.



• Support and coordinate internal and external stakeholder engagement.

• Support and coordinate public relations and communications.

• Support policy analysis and development and participation in state-level public policy engagements.



• Develop and maintain strong partnerships with conservation groups, forestry, and agricultural interests.

• Work collaboratively with MFM and MAS management teams to assess public relations risks and opportunities.

• Support research and analysis of legislative and regulatory programs and issues.

• Work extensively with conservation, forestry and agricultural organizations, local communities, and diverse other constituencies to shape and advance company positions.

• Support compliance with Manulife Timberland and Agriculture policies and procedures.

• Participate in appropriate sector associations and coordinate Manulife representation in external groups, including annual reporting.

• Coordinate internal communication mechanisms to deliver public policy, stakeholder engagement, and other relevant external activities to employees.

• With Manager support, lead implementation of an external communications arc across multiple platforms (ie: web pages, press releases, social media content).

• In conjunction with contracted resources and internal team members, develop annual content calendars and communications strategies.

• Lead implementation and reporting for North America Stewardship Partners Program contributions.

• Maintain tracking and reporting system for engagement and communications activities.



• Passion for natural resources and working collaboratively with a broad team across timber and agriculture.

• Bachelor’s Degree and/or equivalent work experience with 5+ years of experience.

• Preferred experience in public affairs, public policy, external affairs, communications, or related discipline.

• Preferred experience working in forestry and/or agriculture.

• Proven ability to work with all types of individuals both internal and external to the organization and function well in team settings.

• Must have demonstrated strong oral and written communication skills and the ability to apply those skills to contentious issues.

• Demonstrated strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to manage multiple projects and conflicting priorities.

• Must be highly motivated, flexible, entrepreneurial and customer service-oriented.

• Must be able to apply sound judgment in decision making with a strong orientation to detailed and high-quality work.

• Proficient skills in Microsoft Office applications: Excel, Word, Power Point, etc.

• Team player with collaborative skills.



• The position is targeted to be located in an established Manulife office in the United States; however flexibility may be granted including consideration of a remote office, subject to approval.

• Moderate travel domestically is expected.
