Your Responsibilities Include

  • In collaboration with the Director of State Government Affairs, you will develop and execute direct advocacy and coalition strategies in select states across the country
  • You will travel to other states frequently to conduct direct advocacy, outreach, and coalition-building activities
  • You will craft and deliver legislative correspondence and other government-targeted communications
  • You will build a network of relationships with key state officials and their offices, as well as other stakeholders in the advocacy space
  • You will act as an advisor to government affairs professionals working in our 34 state chapters
  • You will specialize in a portfolio of policy areas, for which you will work to build winning direct advocacy tactics
  • You will collaborate with coalition partners, investors and AFPF & AFP state chapters, and headquarters office to execute a unified direct advocacy strategy based on AFP’s identified priorities

Knowledge and Skills You Bring to the Organization

  • You’re an experienced hand when it comes to state-level lobbying, having years of experience successfully conducting direct advocacy in multiple states and across branches of government
  • You’ve built and managed coalitions and developed relationships with high profile individuals in the state government space
  • You’re comfortable and have experience speaking in front of groups of people
  • You’re an effective communicator
  • You’re a collaborative problem-solver
  • You thrive in fast-paced, collaborative environments, while also capable of working independently
  • You’re excited to advance AFP’s vision and mission

Standout Candidates May Also Bring

  • You have experience utilizing direct advocacy management platforms, particularly Quorum
  • You have previously worked in state government or have previously been elected to office
  • You’ve supervised teams before and appreciate that strong talent drives toward greater outcomes
