The National Community Pharmacists Association is seeking a Senior Vice President of Government Affairs. This individual will lead a team representing the interests of community pharmacy owners and pharmacists before Congress, the Administration, federal agencies and state legislatures.  Valued position attributes include:

  • proven success as a legislative strategist;
  • key contacts with legislators and regulators;
  • successful oversight of PAC and advocacy fundraising;
  • leveraging grassroots assets;
  • experience overseeing SEC filings;
  • demonstrated lobbying effectiveness;
  • successful oversight of state legislative strategies, and
  • a proven track record for leading an effective advocacy team.

Responsibilities include effectively anticipating, analyzing, and tracking legislation potentially impacting community pharmacy owners and their ability to serve patients; lobbying Congress; leading and collaborating with NCPA team members; participating in and overseeing PAC and Legislative Defense Fund (LDF) fundraising; management of department budget; representing the government affairs team at internal meetings. The position requires collaborating and coordinating strategy and executing action with the organization’s regulatory, communications, and legal teams.  Ability to prominently represent the association’s interests through strong communication and interpersonal skills with a variety of audiences is an important characteristic including the ability to effectively represent organizational positions to the association’s members, supporting partners, public policy forums, and to media.

Ideal candidate will be a registered lobbyist and have at least 10 years of congressional staff or congressional relations experience in healthcare issues, an emphasis on Medicare and Medicaid programs is a plus. Capitol Hill and Administration contacts are essential.  Excellent written and verbal communications skills; analytical abilities and the ability to effectively articulate organizational impact to members and stakeholders is important.
