The Almond Board of California is looking to add a key member to our Global Technical and Regulatory Affairs team who will have overall responsibility for monitoring government policy and legislative issues relative to the California Almond industry. This position focuses on state and federal authorities, preparing responses, disseminating, and analyzing information related to regulatory issues, developing and implementing programs and events and creating communication materials.  This position is a full-time, exempt role and can be performed remotely, preferably with in the state of California with ability to frequently travel to our headquarters in Modesto, CA.

What you will be doing:

  • Establish and maintain relationships with government officials, Congressional offices, legislative staffers and related programs
  • Coordinate the monitor, submission, and tracking of regulatory comments
  • Prepare and maintain the Federal and State Legislative Reports outlining key bills to be followed and tracking spreadsheets for legislation and presidential actions
  • Provide analyses of key legislative proposals impacting the almond industry
  • Develops factsheets, overviews, and backgrounders on key regulatory and legislative issues
  • Lead on planning annual events, industry delegation and legislative visits
  • Lead in coordinating communications priorities and topics including writing articles, developing presentations, brochures, and Almanac content
  • Identify and work with technical and policy experts, consultant, strategic partners, and other organization on issues of mutual interest
  • Serves as USDA liaison to coordinate the review and approval of materials

Our ideal candidate requirements:

  • BA/BS degree in government, political economics, regulatory affairs or a closely related field, and 5-7 years of related professional experience
  • Knowledge of state and federal legislative procedures, governing bodies, regulations, and policymaking
  • Skill in researching and analyzing regulatory and legislative issues, preparing background materials and reports, developing concise summaries of legislative and policy related subjects, and preparing and presenting complex issues of highly technical material to lay persons in writing and through group presentations.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills with strength in building relationships
