POSITION SUMMARY (Basic purpose or primary function of job)
The Senior Director, DEI & Community Impact Initiatives leads the Arthritis Foundation in strategic efforts to ensure mission-driven initiatives reach, serve, and engage the diverse communities impacted by arthritis. This position fosters inclusivity and accessibility in mission delivery and consumer insight initiatives. This position also manages the broad consumer insights agenda that engages arthritis constituents to inform and advance the Arthritis Foundation’s mission, program offerings, and other initiatives. This position works closely with cross-departmental staff and volunteer teams to identify effective and sustainable execution tactics in outreach and mission delivery, partnership development and management, and measuring the impact and effectiveness of the organization’s annual plan to deliver quality-of-life initiatives. This role is responsible for infusing “patient-centricity” in the AF’s internal and external work by facilitating opportunities for consumers to share their patient stories and provide patient-reported data. This includes managing the Patient Leadership Council and sub-councils. Responsibilities include creating an appropriate feedback loop with patients/volunteers and staff for ongoing quality improvement and other duties as assigned.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES (Principal responsibilities or job duties)
DEI Programming: Develops and implements program strategies that address DEI priorities and principles and identifies opportunities for incorporating patient and volunteer perspectives. Works collaboratively with Mission Delivery, Field Market and the Volunteer Engagement teams as well as volunteers to implement and evaluate DEI mission delivery efforts.
Partnership Development: Develops and supports organizational-wide strategies for DEI mission-related and consumer insights efforts that involve sustainable partnership development, cultivation, and management.
Program Effectiveness: Leads efforts to track and measure the success of DEI efforts, mission programs, events, and special consumer insights projects to determine the relevance and level of achievement of objectives, demographic representation, effectiveness, efficiency, impact, and sustainability. Creates and disseminates evaluation reports with summaries and recommendations to stakeholders.
Consumer Insights: Oversees the broad market research agenda, designing studies, online panel surveys, focus groups, and listening sessions for internal and external audiences; and the collection of deeper dive data to distill key trends that inform the organization’s health and business initiatives and new product development in all mission, communication, and programmatic areas.
Patient Engagement & Communication: Supervises the engagement of a diverse network of patients for deeper dive surveys and other consumer research to inform the organizational agenda for mission delivery and other initiatives. Formalizes an effective feedback loop to patient participants, distilling organizational “headlines” from the data. Manages the AF’s Patient Leadership Council, strategically ensuring a well-rounded diversity of input and formalizing procedures to utilize the Council for real-time insights on key time-sensitive issues. Develops ad hoc patient councils for disease-specific or other target audience insights.
Volunteer Engagement & Feedback: Works collaboratively with Mission Delivery, Field Management and the Volunteer Engagement teams to ensure that volunteer engagement is productive and impactful for volunteers. Creates and manages a feedback process with internal staff and volunteers to monitor for ongoing improvement needs.
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE & EDUCATION
Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of 8 – 10 years of progressive experience in a health-cause, non-profit, university, government, or related business environment; or equivalent combination of education and experience. A Master’s degree in a health-related field is preferred but not required.
Must have experience working with diverse communities that include DEI-focused program development and management.
Candidate should have a strategic mindset with the ability to execute and drive results effectively and a strong ability to build and manage collaborative relationships and strategic partnerships.
Must have experience in patient engagement/consumer market research and analysis and be able to apply those patient and market insights to develop targeted and effective outreach, programmatic, and partnership initiatives.
Strong volunteer management skills and the ability to cultivate and maintain long-term volunteer relationships and motivate others to achieve goals and build connections and relationships.
Highly organized, detail-oriented, and proactive, with the ability to set goals and meet deadlines. This includes strong time management, project management, and meeting management skills.
Superior oral and written communication skills; strong interpersonal skills with demonstrated ability to interact positively and work collaboratively in a diverse environment with individuals at all levels inside and outside the organization, including staff and volunteers; proven presentation skills are a plus.
Demonstrated ability to work across an organization to influence and coordinate resources and achieve organizational objectives.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint), web-based applications, social media, and computer equipment.
Ability to work in remote/virtual environments.
Some travel required.
