Sr. Director, Legislative Affairs
Senior position responsible for developing public policy arguments and legislative strategies in support of NADA’s agenda. Works with the Vice President and Senior Vice President of Legislative Affairs to implement NADA’s legislative agenda before Congress.
- Leadership role in formulating and implementing policy for NADA’s legislative priorities before Congress.
- In conjunction with Vice President and Senior Vice President, develop and execute strategies to advance and achieve NADA’s legislative policies and goals.
- Lobby Members of Congress and key staff members, particularly with jurisdiction over assigned issues.
- Analyze proposed legislation and amendments for dealer impact and draft briefing and advocacy materials to protect the rights and interests of automobile and truck dealers.
- Prepare testimony and technical background on legislation for congressional committees.
- Coordinate efforts with industry-based coalitions and lead outreach to potential allies on issues of mutual interest.
- Represent NADA at political action committee events.
- Deliver speeches and presentations before dealer groups including NADA Washington Conference.
- As needed, assist the Vice President and the Senior Vice President with managerial duties of the Legislative Office.
- Other job-related duties as assigned.
Education and Work Experience
Bachelor’s Degree required, Master’s Degree or Juris Doctor Degree preferred. Extensive experience (8+ years) in the federal legislative process, which may include either senior staff level on Capitol Hill or a national trade association. Senate experience, tax expertise, and/or auto industry experience a plus. Must have exceptional writing and oral communication skills. Key competencies include problem solving, strategic thinking, negotiation skills, results orientation, attention to detail, analytical skills, and ability to manage legislative issues. Excellent advocacy and political skills with strong emphasis on bipartisan relationships.
