Position Specific Description
Responsible for the government affairs in the Mid-Atlantic region of the United States. The position involves oversight responsibility and management of the policy, positions, and priorities in the Mid-Atlantic in support of NextEra’s existing assets and new development and growth. This includes policy coordination of and responsibility for the state houses, governor’s offices, regulatory commissions and agencies. The position also includes campaign activity, as needed, as well as support for local permitting and development issues at the county level, when required.
The job requires commercial capabilities and knowledge of business in order to flag risks and credibly work with policy makers and politicians to advance NextEra interests. The position involves extensive teamwork, internally and externally, on such issues as legislation, regulatory proceedings, permitting, environmental review processes, and tax. Candidate should have strong teamwork / team building ability, project management background, and the ability to coordinate a multi-background professional team. Strong communication skills are required as well as a disciplined approach to managing competing company interests and setting priorities for the team and the region.
Employees in this role directly support management and development through representation of our company’s interests in regulatory bodies, regional transmission, and planning organizations and legislatures and members of the executive branch of state governments in the United States and provinces in Canada.

- Lobbies legislatures
- Formulates company strategies internally for communication in the marketplace
- Completes long-range strategic planning
- Performs other job-related duties as assigned
- Bachelor’s Degree
- Experience: 12+ years
- Master’s – Business Administration
- Juris Doctorate
