Habitat for Humanity International (HFHI) is currently seeking an experienced and passionate individual to serve as the Sr. Director – U.S. Government Relations with our Government Relations and Advocacy team. Reporting to the VP – Government Relations & Advocacy, the Sr. Director – Government Relations will be responsible for HFHI’s overall government relations strategy related to state, local and federal public policy in the U.S. The Sr. Director will manage HFHI’s US government relations team, strategically align efforts with HFHI advocacy campaigns, and support the HFH network in all government relations related strategies.

The position will also be responsible for the implementation of HFHI’s advocacy agenda directly at the federal level and supporting state and local advocacy efforts across the network and will work to align efforts with HFHI’s US Office, US Council, advocacy campaigns team, and other critical stakeholders and coalitions. Managing a complex advocacy agenda that includes cross cutting priorities such as racial equity in housing and rural development in housing, the position will play a critical role in strategy related to Habitat’s federal agenda, including focused advocacy on appropriations, affordable housing legislation, strategic direction of public policy issues embedded in advocacy campaigns, and strategy for HFHI’s annual legislative conference. Based in the Washington, D.C. office, this hybrid position (partial remote/partial office-based) will require up to 20% travel within the U.S.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
** Direct, develop, plan, and execute HFHI’s overall Government Relations strategy at the state, local and Federal levels
** Manage and provide strategic direction to all US focused policy and government relations positions in HFHI’s GRA office
** Coordinate HFHI’s US government relations activities with all key across stakeholders across the HFH network and Senior HFHI leaders
** Provide direct support to HFHI Sr. leaders engaging in key government relations activities
** Direct and manage the budget of the US government relations team
** Direct and manage government relations consultants, including experts at the federal level

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

Pursuant to current HFHI policy, this position requires full vaccination against COVID-19, except to the extent such requirement is prohibited by applicable law.

** Bachelors degree required
** Masters in public policy or related fields preferred
** 10 plus years of related experience
** Previous experience with the Habitat for Humanity network or another affiliated network or another affordable housing provider, especially one with a focus on homeownership preferred
** Demonstrated ability to manage a team
** Demonstrated ability to manage complex change while staying focused on strategy
** Demonstrated state and local public policy experience.
** Understanding of and experience with federal affordable housing policy.
** Knowledge of affordable housing and/or community development policy and programs.
** Ability to translate and communicated complex public policy issues to a broad set of different audiences
** Excellent written and verbal communication and presentation skills.
** Effective listener.
** Excellent interpersonal and relational skills.
** Ability to build collaborative relationships.
** Ability to manage personal tasks, keep deadlines, and communicate priorities effectively
