The Sr. Manager of Government Relations will lead the eastern region state policy and regulatory strategy for McKesson Specialty Health and The US Oncology Network on behalf of the Government Relations & Public Policy team. This position will be based out of the MSH office in The Woodlands, TX working in multiple business and public policy issue areas, including responsibility for state policy initiatives and Medicaid reimbursement and regulations. This individual will act as an organizational expert on state legislation, policy research, analysis and forecasting. Will also support the MSH federal government relations team on as as-needed basis.
The Sr. Manager of Government Relations will be responsible for crafting, messaging and implementing state legislative/regulatory strategies through leadership roles with allied associations and industry trade groups. This role is responsible for developing and executing a comprehensive plan to increase Network practice participation in the legislative process through site visits, policy briefings, town hall meetings and political events.
This individual will manage multiple outside consultants to accomplish goals and effectively communicate results with executive leadership.
Responsible for researching, analyzing and forecasting Network-specific implications of state policy legislation and regulatory proposals.
Direct management of outside consultants and lobbyists through Network contract engagements.
Develops, maintains and strengthens relationships with allied industry organizations to assist in achieving public policy goals; serves as a liaison between MSH and industry groups.
Supports the federal government relations team as needed and as federal legislative priorities arise when most state legislative sessions are adjourned.
Strengthens physician relationships with key government policymakers through participation in meetings and individual personal events to ensure effective advocacy. This will consist of all necessary mobilization tactics to ensure that Network physicians are able to participate in meetings with relevant organizations and elected-officials.
Supports the preparation of formal testimony to committees of jurisdiction on issues impacting assigned policy and business areas.
2+ years community relations or related experience and demonstrated leadership skills
At least 7+ years public affairs experience
Minimum 4 year degree in public policy, political science or related field
Additional Knowledge & Skills Thorough knowledge of political, legislative, regulatory and related public affairs projects; excellent written and verbal communication skills
4-year degree in business, communications, or related field or equivalent experience
