Job Description
Summary:
The Sr. Public Relations (PR) Writer will create and facilitate compelling original content including but not limited to press releases, award submissions, speaking opportunities, video scripts, talking points, media pitches and emails, under minimal oversight and direction. The incumbent will work with subject matter experts (SMEs) to write clear, engaging, and high-quality materials while meeting brand standards and adhering to Associated Press (AP) style guidelines.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Write accurate, error-free, engaging public relations and communications materials, including, but not limited to press releases, PR pitches, award and speaking submissions.
  • Research and understand target audiences and key stakeholders through a variety of resources such as online searches, interviews with SMEs and meetings with key cross-functional teams.
  • Interview members of executive team to produce original content that furthers NextGen Healthcare’s image as a thought leader in the Healthcare IT space.
  • Liaise with clients and partners to promote key initiatives and wins that are mutually beneficial.
  • Draft and edit corporate communications and PR materials, review for corporate brand consistency and messaging, while utilizing AP style guidelines and voice.
  • Develop and maintain in-house copy style guide.
  • Coordinate with Sr. Social Media Specialist(s) to develop concise, attention-getting copy for NextGen Healthcare’s social media channels.
  • Collaborate with internal teams, clients, and partners to develop marketing and/or corporate communication collateral.
  • Identify PR trends and key opportunities to develop and disseminate innovative PR communications.
  • Update and maintain PR communications files, systems, and standard documents.
  • Coordinate with PR agency as directed by management.
  • Participate in cross-departmental projects and initiatives including trade show preparation and participation.
  • Conduct presentations to report on key PR performance metrics.
  • Create, update, and/or edit a variety of reports to assist in tracking the effectiveness of PR communications.
  • Track current campaigns across multiple platforms and identify opportunities to further optimize the organization’s communication outreach, influence key stakeholders, and increase audience size.
  • Partner with consultants and other PR industry colleagues to create win-win business relationships.
  • Update assigned website pages to ensure consistency with the organization’s messages and post company news.
  • Maintain a regular schedule of content and deliver up-to-date and effective PR material to promote NextGen Healthcare’s thought leadership and its solutions and services.
  • Develop and maintain processes for tracking of press releases, awards, and speaking engagements.

Education

Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in journalism, public relations, English, communications, or related discipline.
  • Or, any combination of education and experience which would provide the required qualifications for the position.

 

 

Experience

Required

  • 5+ years of experience in a professional PR role with a solid portfolio of work.
  • 5+ years of experience working in PR, communications, and/or a marketing role in the technology or enterprise software industry.

Preferred

  • Experience writing press releases for technology and/or healthcare.
  • Experience using project management tools such as Asana.

 

 

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

  • Knowledge of PR and communications best practices and standards as it relates to corporate branding and messaging.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the organization’s goals, products, and brand.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the healthcare and/or software industry.
  • Knowledge of and proficiency in Microsoft Office Products (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint) with intermediate to advanced skill level.
  • Knowledge of project management tools such as Asana a plus.
  • Ability to stay abreast of the changes in the IT Healthcare landscape, including competitors and potential partners.
  • Ability to work under tight deadlines to achieve goals for PR outreach.
  • Ability to learn and work with various types of software specifically designed for Public Relations.
  • Ability to demonstrate excellent communication skills (verbal and written) to provide a consistent perspective to a broad audience and key stakeholders; ability to adapt tone to reflect messaging.
  • Ability to demonstrate excellent grammar, copy editing, proofreading, and writing skills to identify and correct errors in facts, formatting, grammar, punctuation, and spelling.
  • Ability to write compelling, clear, and error-free copy.
  • Ability to demonstrate strong strategic, conceptual, and critical thinking skills.
  • Ability to work independently as a self-starter in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to demonstrate excellent organizational skills, with the ability to prioritize workload, meet deadlines, and multi-task while maintaining attention to detail.
  • Ability to work in a team environment employing a hands-on approach with colleagues at all levels of the organization.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships through collaboration and respect.
