Location: Washington, DC or Remote

Description: The American Land Title Association, a non-partisan, national trade association representing the land title and real estate settlement industry, is excited to find a government relations professional to provide state legislative analysis to ALTA leaders, state land title associations (LTAs), and other state and national industry stakeholders. The State Government Affairs Manager tracks legislation in all 50 states related to the title and settlement services industry. Working closely with state LTA leaders and executives on their legislative priorities, the Manager will create strategies for addressing key state legislative initiatives and develop needed tools and resources. The ideal candidate is a helpful and analytical contributor who enjoys working in a fast-paced, team-driven environment. Someone who prefers a direct and factual communication style, and who considers themselves to be a quality-driven self-starter, would excel in this role.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Draft talking points, one-pagers, and letters on key industry issues to be sent to state legislators and regulators
  • Create education and advocacy resources related to state legislative priorities
  • Facilitate interaction between ALTA members and state-based public policy leaders
  • Track and inventory state legislative and regulatory priorities with a real-time tracking system
  • Regularly organize conference calls, webinars, and other informational tools to assist ALTA members and state land title associations with their specific priorities
  • Provide support for committees and workgroups focused on state government affairs
  • Collaborate with industry partners, stakeholders, and other trade associations on joint state legislative initiatives
  • Stay apprised of relevant state and local legislative or policy issues
  • Perform legislative research and make policy recommendations to senior staff
  • Support government affairs team members in presentations, external communications, meeting logistics, and other related duties
  • Contribute to government affairs team discussions about legislative strategies and communications efforts
  • Build relationships with members of the Property Records Industry Association and actively participate on various committees and workgroups
  • Manage vendor relationships
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant public policy field
  • Experience: 2-5 years in a corresponding work environment
  • Understanding of the legislative process
  • Demonstrated expertise in policy analysis
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively and build strong relationships
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Travel: approximately 5-10% required
  • Background check: required
