State Policy Advisor


Researches and analyzes emerging policy issues and advocates on state or local level issues. Develops and implements strategic responses to policy changes through the development and use of advocacy tools and by seeking internal alignment on key initiatives.



Research and analyze emerging public policy, regulatory, and legislative issues to determine implications for VSP


Develop internal and external advocacy tools such as “one-pagers”, background documents, and talking points based on the input and feedback of stakeholders


Partner with corporate communications/marketing teams to ensure Government Affairs messaging is consistent with VSP’s externally facing, or client-facing marketing messages and business priorities


Develop effective working relationships with key internal stakeholders including key members of the executive and senior leadership teams and the legal and compliance organizations


Work with Government Affairs and Legal leadership, as well as key internal stakeholders to drive internal consensus on important legislative and regulatory issues affecting VSP Vision


Organize and participate in outreach to state and local lawmakers including facility tours and industry events


Job Specifications


Typically has the following skills or abilities:


3-5 years of policy, legal, and/or community advocacy experience


Masters or Juris Doctorate degree preferred


Ability to manage complex projects


Experience engaging with stakeholders and navigating political relationships to drive policy agendas; a team player


Ability to move quickly and navigate multiple projects over short and long-time horizons


Intuitive understanding of the intersection between policy and business strategy/outcomes


Solid organizational skills, detail-oriented, and able to think quickly in a fast-paced environment


Strong written and verbal communication skills


Excellent judgment regarding strategic policy priorities, taking into consideration the political and communications landscape





Compensation range for the role is listed below. Applicable salary ranges may differ across markets. Actual pay will be determined based on experience and other job-related factors permitted by law.
