The Bowen Group has an outstanding opportunity for a Strategic Communication Planner to join our team. This is a full-time position located at the Mark Center, Alexandria, VA. What you’ll be doing at The Bowen Group

  • Assist with development, drafting, editing, publishing, distribution, coordination of various communication deliverables, to include information papers, guidance memorandums, policies, technical reports, congressional reports, annual reports, responses to media inquiries, briefing cards, and presentations
  • Provide communication and graphic support to design presentations and infographics related to  Plans, Policy, and Program support
  • Provide support to  Strategic Offsites to include preparing agendas, logistical and administrative support, taking meeting notes, and facilitating work group discussions
  • Provide support for weekly status reports to leadership in DSPO, Office of Force Resiliency, and Defense Human Resources Activity. This includes reports such as the Weekly Status Report (WAR), 5Ws, and other weekly requirements that contains information for leadership
  • Provide logistical and administrative support for Governance structure meetings to include the quarterly Suicide Prevention General Officer Steering Committee (SPGOSC) and quarterly Suicide Prevention and Risk Reduction Committee (SPARRC) Meetings are held locally and consist of 20 DoD Senior Executive, General and Flag Officer’s for the SPGOSC and approximately 40 mid-level to senior level employees for the SPARRC
  • Support to Governance structure includes, but not limited to, reserving conference rooms, tracking attendees, taking meeting notes, developing place cards, building binders, and facilitating working group discussions
  • Assist with developing agendas and guest speakers of the SPGOSC and SPARRC to ensure effective and efficient meetings are held.  Provide meeting notes to the government for approval within five business days from meeting completion in accordance with the DoD Correspondence manual
  • Develop and maintain a current list of SPGOSC and SPARRC members to include relevant contact information
  • Coordinate and maintain Governance structure designation appointment letters for the SPGOSC and SPARRC membership
  • Support includes assisting in the preparation of agendas, print and distribute read-ahead materials, develop place cards, reserve conference rooms, manage calendar invitations, manage attendees, coordinate parking, develop directional signs, develop leadership binders, and other logistical support as needed
  • Coordinate the development of the department’s annual report, to include engaging stakeholders, providing graphic support, obtaining approval, formatting in a standardized format for future publication, and releasing to the public
  • Provide support for weekly status reports to leadership in DSPO, Office of Force Resiliency, and Defense Human Resources Activity. This includes reports such as the Weekly Status Report (WAR), 5Ws, task trackers, and other weekly requirements that contains information for leadership

What’s a good fit

  • Must have a Bachelor’s Degree
  • 5-10 years of experience; DoD experience preferred
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Must be familiar with Office of the Secretary of Defense and Department of Defense writing styles as contained in DoD Manual 5110.04-M, Volume 1, DoD Manual for Written Material: Correspondence Management and DoD 5110.04-M, Volume 2, DoD Manual for Written Material: Examples and Reference Material.
  • Must be familiar with various graphic software and the Microsoft Office Suite (to include: Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook, Publisher, etc.)
  • Strong organizational, time-management and communication skills
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen
  • Must be able to obtain a favorable background check
