Visit Seattle is seeking an experienced, collaborative, and strategic professional to serve as the new SVP of Community Engagement & Public Affairs. Visit Seattle has served as the official destination marketing organization (DMO) for Seattle and King County for more than 50 years. A 501(c)(6) organization, Visit Seattle enhances the economic prosperity of the region through global destination branding along with competitive programs and campaigns in leisure travel marketing, convention sales, and overseas tourism development.


The SVP of Community Engagement & Public Affairs will lead the development and execution of Visit Seattle’s community engagement initiatives, including partnerships, strategic conversations, and public affairs. This position also leads the organization’s advocacy, data and research, and visitor services initiatives and shepherds the development of strategic plans in collaboration with the senior leadership team. In leading the organization’s partnership department, the SVP of Community Engagement & Public Affairs works closely with the Director of Partnership & Visitor Centers, to develop strategy relative to Visit Seattle’s 700-plus partners and high-profile sponsors, as well as visitor centers.


Full responsibility for the strategy, management, and execution of the following departments and/or areas of the organization, as well as integrating and collaborating with all Visit Seattle departments:

  • Public Affairs/Advocacy
  • Partnership and Visitor Services
  • Data/Research


Public Affairs & Community Engagement:

  • Serve as the organization’s key liaison with the City of Seattle (including City Council), King County (including County Council), State of Washington, and other municipalities as it relates to funding, advocacy, industry relations, and other needs.
  • Serve as a lead contact with key partners including the Port of Seattle, Washington State Tourism, Brand USA, Downtown Seattle Association, local chambers and regional DMOs.
  • Manage industry advocacy efforts locally, regionally, and nationally, working in tandem with industry partners like Washington Hospitality Association, US Travel Association, and public affairs consultants and agencies.
  • Lead community engagement initiatives including DestinationNEXT and initiatives created as a result of DNext and an expanded strategic planning process, and Board committees and initiatives.
  • Represent Visit Seattle and its partners relative to destination issues that may compromise travel and tourism (ex: street scene, homelessness).
  • In conjunction with the President & CEO, serve as a spokesperson to local and national media as needed.



  • Manage Visit Seattle’s purchases (and in-kind) data and research, ensuring it is used effectively and supports organizational objectives.
  • Identify appropriate vendors, systems, and solutions, as well as the hiring/purchasing and management of vendors annually. This includes identifying and securing an appropriate budget to support data/research needs.
  • Routinely evaluate and identify new data/research opportunities to achieve organizational objectives, providing staff and Visit Seattle’s partners timely information, insights, and trends.
  • Oversee and implement communication efforts to effectively share data/research with various stakeholders, including the board of directors, partners, elected officials, and media.
  • Serve on the Senior Leadership Team and work in executive capacity relative to organizational needs, long- term planning, and other duties as assigned by the President & CEO.
