Position Overview

Fairstead seeks a Vice President of Community Impact & Government Relations to play a critical leadership role in building and managing relationships with Fairstead’s 25,000-plus residents, community partners, and various government stakeholders. With a focus on affordable housing, this is a unique opportunity for a self-starter to drive national partnerships, programming, and policy for one of the fastest growing real estate developers in the country. The role will also work closely with the CEO, Vice President of Communications, and the Vice President of Social Services.

Responsibilities

  • Work with the firm’s leadership team to develop, propose, and execute strategies for government and community partnerships to support Fairstead’s national real estate portfolio
  • Direct company’s national Community Impact programming and legislative agenda
  • Collaborate across all company business lines on initiatives and programs that support residents and the larger communities and neighborhoods where Fairstead operates
  • Work with the property management leadership team and on-site social service coordinators to develop local and regional partnership support for onsite programming
  • Adjust legislative and non-legislative strategies to meet changing national needs and political landscapes
  • Facilitate, manage, and lead the execution of key internal and external programs linked to the firm’s community and government affairs work, including the advocacy of affordable housing programs
  • Build and maintain relationships with regional, state, and federal officials, as well as community leaders supporting affordable housing initiatives
  • Provide support to capital partners; legislators; and local, state, and federal agencies
  • Assist firm in developing DEI, sustainability, and resiliency programming

Requirements

  • A Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of 10 years of experience in community engagement, government relations and external affairs
  • Strong organizational, communications, and management skills
  • Proven track record of working with partners and local officials on the implementation of programing, policy, and legislation that supports community and economic development, education, healthcare, and affordable housing
  • Ability to travel and attend meetings and community events on evenings and weekends
  • Highly motivated self-starter able to problem solve and juggle multiple priorities
  • Must be a collaborative team player
