Vice President, Energy & Environment Counsel
The Vice President, Energy & Environmental Counsel reviews and analyzes regulatory, legal, and scientific matters impacting the trucking industry and makes recommendations to the ATA membership in establishing ATA energy, environmental, and sustainability policies. This position interacts with active and prospective members, federal and state administrative agencies, Congress, state trucking executives, elected state officials, law firms, industry coalitions, trade associations, environmental and energy organizations, trade press, vendors and ATA staff.
We are looking for someone familiar with federal environmental and energy statutes and prior experience with managing staff and outside legal counsel. An ideal candidate would have prior experience in drafting written comments, legal research and writing, lobbying, and the ability to manage highly technical issues. Lobbying experience with Congress and administrative agencies, exceptional inter-personal skills and a thorough understanding of the roles and responsibilities of the federal government is also desired. Publication and speaking experience is preferred.
Your main responsibilities will be to oversee federal rulemaking development and implementation and to monitor, assess, research, and comment on energy and environmental regulations, studies, policies, and initiatives. This candidate will also seek legislative reform while reducing the burdens and costs of energy and environmental compliance aimed at the trucking industry. Lastly, we are looking for this candidate to improve the public image of the trucking industry by promoting the energy and environmental efforts of the industry.
Education/Relevant Experience-
Graduate of an accredited law school plus a minimum of 10 years of progressive legal experience in the areas of energy and environmental law with either a law firm or state or federal energy/environmental agency.
Undergraduate degree in either the fields of science, engineering, health, energy, or environmental studies is preferred. Post-graduate work in the aforementioned curriculum areas is highly desirable.
